94 s10 with 4.3 w, starts fine,idles fine,but driving down the road it seems to misfire. Sometimes it runs just fine. I replaced fuel filter,plugs,cap,and wires but no change.

run the fault codes as misfire can be from injectors , low fuel pressure and ignition problems
all temp gauges will show a rise on stopping an engine as there is still residual heat in the block and heads with no water circulation and cooling
the fire from the exhaust indicates an exhaust valve is not closing properly so a compression test would be in order to check for valve problems or hydraulic follower problems
code p0303 refers to cyl 3 misfire detected ===causes engine mechanical fault--wiring--ignition/fuel system--injector--ECT/MAF sensor--ECM
code p0316 refers to misfire detected during start up --first 1000 revs===causes --engine mechanical fault--wiring--ignition/furl system--injector
the common fault cause is ignition/ fuel system and injectors so I would be checking fuel pressure and injector systems for clean and wiring connections are good especially on no 3 injector.
hi I assume this is a fuel injection vehicle and if so it sounds a lot like you have a throttle body problem or throttle sensor problem ,have you also checked that the fuel filter is not blocked,remove the fuel filter and blow thru it in the direction of flow and if your cheeks blow up while blowing thru the filter it is blocked or restricted -replace.
hope that helps .

The flashing and rough running is to to a misfire or misfires cause by arcing due to moisture on ignition components. Eventually these misfires can lead to other problems such as damage catalytic converter. Start by identifying which cylinder(s) is/are misfiring. The arching can be reproduced with a spray bottle filled with soapy water. Spray the ignition components (wires, coils, distributor cap...)and look for the vehicle to idle rough. Replace any faulty component.
When the light flashes it means a cylinder misfire, so you must check everything, spark, (first) injector fuel delivery intake manifold vacuum leaks and compression if not other problem accounts for the misfire.
Have fuel pressure checked when it starts to misfire/stall and driving down the road at normal speeds. Not unusual for fuel pump to run at proper pressure when cool, but lose pressure when warmed up. If it's only running bad when off accelerator and stopping or turning and runs down the highway good, remove and clean AIS/IAC motor. ( idle speed motor ) Once cleaned, if it runs better for a while then starts to act up again, replace it.
Had the same thing. The didtributor was going bad. Lived with it for a few months finally it died. 1 year after replacing the distributor the problem started again. Glad I got a warranty on the distributor. Running great now on the second distributor.
TRY REPLACING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR..HAVE SEEN THESE CAUSE MISFIRES AND LOW VOLTAGE DTCS AS PCM THINKS VEHICLE IS NOT RUNNING..ALTERNATOR MAY NOT BE PUTTING OUT PROPERLY
