I have a 2000 chevy malibu and my check engine light is on and according to Advance Auto Part, its my IAT sensor. What is that and is it important to get fixed right away?
The iat sensor(intake air sensor) it is in big hose from air cleaner and has a 2 wire plug on it.iat sensor monitors tempurature of air entering engine. the pcm uses this info, to balance air and fuel mixture. if bad it can cause; poor idle when cold, stumble on cold excelleration, and surging when engine is warm. I replaced the iat on my malibu and it was less then 20.00, any auto parts store shold have this, I know advance auto does. the sensor just pulls out from hose.

IAT is intake air temperature....It shouldn't do any real damage to drive it like that but likely will adversely affect your fuel mpg.
