Sorry could not find an 5.0L engine, on an 01 Ford f-150, only engines for 01 f-150, 4.2L 6 cylinder, 4.6L and 5.4L V-8, I did find a 5.0L for Explorer and Mountaineer, hope this helps you, if not replied and I'll see if I can help you. This figures is for a 5.0L, but not f-150.
PROBLEM IN THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENDER UNIT.IF ITS FAULTY BY IT BEING PART OF THE PCM.IT WILL TELL PCM ENGINE RUNNING HOT WHICH WILL SHUT DOWN TO KEEP FROM DOING FURTHER DAMAGE.
i have a 2001 f 150 supercrew and mine done that it was the coil pack (power pack) each cylinder has one so far i have replaced 5 of them cost with labor under $200.00 each time. have it put on computer dignostic test first thats $35-50.i hope this helps you.
if you plan on keeping this truck and can afford a trany then i would, if trany is orginal, wiyh 243,000 miles then theres not much life left in it. this way youll have a dependable truck with a rebuilt engine and trany.hope this is helpful,
may need 1 0r more coil packs replaced,or it could be what happened to my 2000 4.6---1 lifter expanded out and wouldnt collapse, causing the rocker arm to fall out of place and the valve could never open...try unplugging 1 coil pack at a time while running and listen for a change in the way it runs,if there isnt a change then its probably a bad coil pack, find a cylinder that runs and swap the coil packs,if no difference then its probably the valve staying shut.
If you cleared the codes with a code scanner, or battery disconnect, all is should take to trigger the problem again is 2 driver cycles.
Drive cycle : Operating temp engine ( let it warm up ) At least 1/2 tank fuel A run of normal throttle usage, to maintain at least 46 mph for 5 min, back down to a stop and then back over 46 mph again ( 5 min ). 2 cycles of this should have the DTC P1000 code removed ( tests completed ) and if the error is still there, the CEL should illuminate again.
