AC repair require a vacuum pump. It is not a do it your self job unless you has access to a HVAC vacuum pump. Example: Robinair brand vacuum pump and manifold meter, hoses and R-134a refrigerant.

My advice is to let the professional to do the job.

cheap_repair_5.jpg To save money you may want to install a bypass pulley, about $30 from rockauto.com. This will take the place of the compressor and allow you to use the same serpentine belt; but you will have no AC.

To replace the AC compressor you will need a vacuum pump ,gauges, recovery pump, and the correct refrigerant to complete the job.

here is a general idea of whats involved to replace a compressor.

The ac locked on my 2000 v6 24v ford taurus. Are there any other solution besides replacing the compressor?

if your asking if you can run the car with a locked up compressor and the belt still spins on the a/c clutch then you can as long as you disconnect the connector on the compressor so it doesn`t try to engage.if your asking if you have to replace the compressor to have the a/c working then yes,you can get rebuilt compressors instead of buying new,and the system will have to be flushed and cleaned with the receiver dryer replaced to get all the debris out of the system so nothing else will get damaged in the system,

What belt can be installed on a 2000 ford taurus ses to by pas the ac compressor?

remove the Air compressor...take a piece of string and route it thru the pulleys then take string to auto parts store and have them measure it with their belt tool. they can match it up for you and get you a belt that will bypass the ac compressor.

Bad ac compressor

U should replace the receiver drier, also called the accumulator, replace the high side line fixed orifice as well, you will need to drain the old compressor and measure the oil as well and add 6 ounce's to that amount you measured from the old ac compressor. and of course you will need approx four 14 ounce cans of R134

your electric a/c clutch is wearing out. You have to remove compressor to replace the a/c clutch mounted on the compressor.

If you can get someone to shim it out a little bit, it would work ok. Call a few indpenedent shops and ask if they can shim it and how much it would cost.

Just say, I need to have the clutch on my a/c compressor shimmed so my a/c clutch clamps tighter. 2000 Taurus. How much to do that?

I would guess $100 max.

Otherwise, you need to have clutch & field coil assembly replaced. Around $300 - $350.

Here is a picture of the compressor with clutch mounted on front.

2000 Ford Taurus AC compressor not working;I tried putting freon......compressor has to kick-in in order to take in the Freon; compressor wouldn't kick in ; by pass the low pressure switch, Comp didn't...

the compressor doesn't have to be working for the gas to go in
you connect the gas to the inlet line and as the gas pressure in the system rises , the ac compressor will cut in normally and suck in the rest until the pressures are correct
of course you have to be putting in the correct gas because the switches are different

AC compressor wouldn't kicking in; 2000 Ford Taurus

If your R 134 is low in your system then the AC compressor will not engage the clutch to run the compressor. Have your system check for charge level of the R134 first. If low they can add to system. All AC systems leak down over a period of time and need to be recharged. So, don't get worried that your system is bad. If the charge depletes itself again quickly then you have a leak somewhere in the system that needs to be addressed.
