Hi i have an 06 chevy equinox after the ac runs a while the lines freeze up clutch dosent cycle low pressure switch is suspect, traced line from compressor to fire wall cant find low side switch have searched every where is there something else that cycles the ac on this veichle? thanks for any help
If the line freezes up, where ever the frost is is where the restriction inside the line is. Next time you run the a/c and line freezes up put a hot rag on it and watch the a/c start to work as the ice melts.
Unless your a certified HVAC tech or equivalant I recommed you bring the behicle to a repair shop.
Dealing with refrigerants is dangerous and illegal if your not certified to do so.
You have to recover the refrigerant and then pull a vacuum, before you can open up the line and remove the obstruction( which is probably gonna be some type of metering valve that is clogged up). After you remove the obstruction and reconnect the line you have to pull a vacuum to check for leaks., then recharge the system.
A defective low pressure switch will not cause the line to freeze up. It will turn compressor off . The purpose of this switch is too shut down compressor is low side pressure is too low(leak or obstruction). So the switch is doing its job.
Ok The only pressure sensor for your vehicle is on the top of compressor. The orifice tube ( metering device.) for this unit is in the evaporator. If there is icing there is a restriction. You can easily test the switch to see that it is shutting down compressor which it should do. You can try recovering the refrigerant and pulling a vacuun for 20 min and maybe you will not have to open the line to remove the obstruction. If you do open the system to remove obstruction make sure you replace accumulator.
