I have a 2004 Pontiac Aztek. The ABS brake light

I have a 2004 Pontiac Aztek. The ABS brake light came on last Nov, so I took it to Brake Check(Bad move) They indicated it was caused by bad rear brake pads so I had them replaced. The next day the ABS light came back on so i took it back and they said I needed the rear drums so they were replaced. Long story short they finally decided that it was a faulty front hub causing the problem which they replaced 4 times. Now 5 months later and 4 hubs later, I am still have the same problem and Brake Check now say they don't know what is causing the ABS light to come and I need to take it to the dealer. Any suggestion as to the problem and potential cost for repair?

Hello i have a similar problem with my 2002 aztek the ABS light comes on only after my ABS system kick on when it is not suppose to (like normal braking conditions) i took it to be looked at at my local shop who also said it was a front hub having a bad wheel speed censor less than a week after having the work done the problem returned i took it back and they ran diagnostics on it for somewhere around 5 hr and could find nothing so they replaces the hub again.... no shocker here the problem isnt fixed still most recent time i had it in the tech said the problem is the cars computer is "loosing the wheel" he showed me where the main wiring harness runs right next to the oil pan along the bottom of the engine. the wires that go to the ABS control for that side are very swollen and the wires inside are loosing contact. they told me that i would have to replace the harness or live with the problem. after doing research the harness is no longer made and cost around $900 just for the part then u have to pay for the labor of someone putting it in
Hope this sheds some light on your problem

Testimonial: "Thanx for the feedback. I was told that it might be an electrical short somewhere within the wiring harrness however I questioned that if that was the problem, would it not occur right away intead of weeks after the hub replacement. I finally took it to my own mechanic and her stated that her did find the connection clip between the hub and the wiring harress had a loose prong so he tighted it. So far so good and I haven't experiend the problem since, however I am waiting for wet weather since the problem seemed to occur during during or right after a rain. Again thank for your help. "

I am also having the same problem with the ABS light, but my brakes do skip when this occurs. I have had my brakes done twice, both hubs replaced in the front AND both bearings. Guess what? Still having the same problem.

02 Pontiac Aztek front passenger brake line to abs

Clean the surface of the ABS where the brake lines attach. Some are stamped beside each line connection with LF ,RF, RR, LR, master cyl input front, master cyl input rear if yours is a stand alone unit.Otherwise you will have to follow the line back from your RF wheel to the ABS unit to determine which connection is for the RF.

Brake fluid light on 2001 Pontiac aztek is on, bell is chiming. Fluid is full. How do we get the light and chiming to stop?

You have a brake pressure problem, which is potentially dangerous. Your master cylinder may be going bad , leaking internally, and is not supplying the correct pressure to the calipers , or the distribution valve may be bad and the braking pressure is not even on each wheel ... Abs system could also be at fault.. The chiming is a warning of impending danger. Get this fixed as soon as possible before you have an accident.

My 2004 aztek will not shift out of park

Could be the brake light switch, or the shift lock solenoid.
You should be able to shift out of park by turning the key to the unlock position but not to "on". Make sure parking brake is set and crank in neutral.

My brake light has popped on and it stays on and beeps. I took it to the shop they said its probably my abs system somewhere! Only thing is they didn't tell me where to start to repair it. what sensors...

Brake pads have somtimes a wear indicator wire included in the brake pad . When the brake pads are worn this will earth on the disc .
This will ultimately indicate on the dashbard lights .
Brake pads may have worn down to a critical level . Consult a workshop manual for solution , if yu feel like giving it a go yourself .
Follow the instructions to the letter as , this is a safety critical item , if you feel at all doubtfull do not attempt the job .
You may find that you need some specialist tools to wind back the brake actuation such as a special allen key . So dont undertake this job lightly .

MY 2002 AZTEC DOES A GRAB AND RELEASE ON THE BRAKES WHEN PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDDLE but not all of the time. AND THE ABS LIGHT IS NOT ON IN THE DASH BUT AFTER THE LIGHT COMES ON THE BRAKES...

You need to get a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual for those directions. Now as far as your problem is concerned it's not a sensor, it's a kinked brake line, bad Brake Compensator or bad Caliper. The compensator is the part that comes off the Brake booster and has all the brake lines attached to it, usually rectangle shaped. Now the problem could be an air bubble that got into the system if the brake fluid was low but that usually leads to mushy or soft brakes. And yes, it is possible the problem could be the ABS module itself but eliminate the other possible problems first.

My abs light in my 2004 pontiac aztek comes on after i apply breaks.I have had it in the shop and they replaced the brakes then took it back because the abs light still comes on and they reset the code.It...

If the ABS light is on, then there is more than likely an issue with one of the wheel speed sensors. The only way to know for sure which sensor or if any thing else is worng. Is to take your car to a shop or dealer with the abilty to scan an abs system. I have been doing this a long time, and i can tell you this if a mechainic ever tells you that reseting the light will fix the issue then they are liying.
