Three days ago my cars engine light and vsc light came on. I was reading on the internet about possible problems so I checked all the hoses going to the air filter, opened and checked the air filter, took the gas cap off and on, then the lights went off. I drove for another hour, the lights came back on. I went and filled up with gas, went home, did all the things i did before, lights still on. Disconnected the battery, lights went off. Drove it the next day, lights cam back on after twenty minutes driving. Took it to the Lexus dealer yesterday, of course, lights went out without doing anything on the way, the dealer said there was no codes stored and i need to bring it back if the lights go back on. Today, the lights came back on again. It's frustrating, and I wan tot make sure the car is safe, also, the passenger window doesn't work from the drivers console since I disconnected the battery, but it works from the passenger door.
First thing here is that your window control has got nothing to do with the engine light. The best way to solve this problem since you have a check engine light on is to have a diagnostic done which will show some error codes. Based on these error codes then you can start troubleshooting else it will be like looking for a needle in the ocean.
Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.
First, any time the check engine light comes on, a cose is stored in the memory. If anybody tells you that you have no codes, without hooking up their scan tool, go someplace else for service.
Second, the intermittantcy of this leads me to believe that, when you do get the car scanned, you may find some P-codes, P-0440/P0446.
If so, you more than likely have a poor seal on the o-ring on the fuel filer cap. This is very common. What I would suggest, before you start spending any diagnostic fees is this: Remove the fuel cap. Remove the rubber o-ring that is located in the center of the cap's sealing surface, apply some vasoline to it, and refit the o-ring, but insert it turned around; in other words, the fuel neck side of the o-ring should now be facing the cap.
We do this very often, and it saves the diag fees. Worth a try.

I'll try that, do i need to do anything to reset the light? how long until the light goes off? Anything about the passenger window?? Thanks
The light cannot be 'reset' immeditally without the aid of a scan tool; however, it may reset once the vehicle has been driven, as the sensor for thje fuel tank is chck every other drive cycle. If it sees that it is satisfied over 2 different trips, the light may go out.
Regarding the door switch, this may just be a cooincidence. I would be looking at the driver side door switch assembly for either a bad switch or a loose wire. The fact that it works from the pass side indicates that the motor is ok

Hello. The problem is often with the sensors and not the actual mechanism, I would not worry about driving it. When you disconnected the battery you cleared the computer memory. Now you will have to drive it for a few days to get the trouble codes to reappear. I suspect that the drivers console issue is a coincidence. AAMCO repair shops scan for free now as do many auto parts stores. Joe

your o2 sensor is bad. vsc will go on for any small DTC displayed on the MIL (cel)
P0037 LEXUS
P0037 LEXUS - Oxygen Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 2
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Possible causes
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit open shorted to ground
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit fuse
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
When is the code detected?
The P0037 is set when the ECM detects an excessively low voltage through the heated oxygen sensor heater circuit
P0037 LEXUS Description
Oxygen Sensors (O2S) or Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) need to reach a minimum operating temperature of 750 degrees F to produce an accurate voltage signal. The faster the heated oxygen sensor reaches that temperature the faster the sensor will start sending an accurate signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
In order to achieve the require temperature, a heater element is included inside the heated oxygen sensor. The ECM controls the heated oxygen sensor heater element based on signals from the engine coolant temperature and engine load. The ECMcontrols the heater element circuit by allowing current flow to ground.
The ECM monitors the voltage signal received through the heater element circuit and determines the state of the circuit by comparing the voltage detected with the factory specifications.

ur vsc light will come on whenever you have a check eng light on. best thing to do is bring ur car to a local and have them scan ur car. your car should still be under factory warranty any repairs wont cost u anything.
just from my experience a 2007 ES with a check eng light is most likely a faulty a/f sensor or a loose gas cap
SOURCE: how to get the vsc off my 2000 gs 300 lexus
there is a switch under the dash to turn the vsc on and off. its on the driver side

VSC means Vehicle Stability Control.
It comes on when the sensor send a signal that the vehicle is not stable on the ground.....check the wheel balancing and alignment and the air pressure of your tires too.
Good luck.

ok, the passenger window is now working, just had to reset the windows, and we did what you said to the gas cap, and drove it three times since, light is still on? What is next, or do I disconnect the battery to reset the light.
I have tried the previous suggestions, the light still continues to go off and on.
