Wire trailer brake controler on ford pickup

There usually is an open harness plug under the dash. When you buy a brake controller, the instructions should come with it. The better units will have a pigtail which will plug right into the other half of the open harness plug.

If the kit you have has the pigtail connector, but loose wires needing to be connected, see if the color of the wires match those on the open connector. Then match the color of each wire.

Some years of trucks will have a heavy duty flasher to install in the Powerbox to accommodate the extra trailer lights.

Trailer tow stop/turn lamps fuse (20a) blows when I press the brake pedal. Camper is not connected.

iguess you tryed removing this OEM PLUG TO SEE IF THINGS RETURN TO NORMAL?or you can just diconnect power supply to plug to see if there is problem, next use test light when connected with power to plug and see if tester will blow fuse ,it allmost sounds like there is a direct short to ground look over wires carefully look for problems and the plug .hope you get it good luck.

I am installing an electric trailer brake controller on my 2008 Ford F- 150 STX pick up truck and I need to know where it plugs in under the dash

Ford's factory supplied brake controller harness end can be found loosely stuffed under the dash, usually just above the driver's right leg. A Ford harness has a rectangular shaped connector.
Simply connect the brake controller harness connector into the vehicle connector. Zip tie the harness wires to another harness to prevent the wiring from hanging down near your feet.
I hope this helps.

I have a 05 Denali XL 6.0 and i can't find the trailer brake harness under the dash. Please help!!

Hi, the provision for the electric brake controller is located in the electrical center , just to the right of the parking brake. There is a plastic nut, that holds the cover on, and beneath this cover are ports where a connector may be plugged in. A factory harness must be obtained from a Chevy, or GMC dealer for the install. This harness will be labled with wire locations, as it will be attached to your brake controller, then plugged into the slot in the upper l/h corner of the electrical center. The plug will only fit in the appropriate slot. You will then need to put the provided J- fuse into the underhood fuse block. Tis should be the only missing fuse. You should be well on your way, after these few easy steps. Good luck...Coop
