HI, MY CAR RUNS PERFECT, TRANSMISSION SMOOTH, BUT CHECK ENGINE IS ON, IT SAYS: P1870 CODE. {TRANSMISSION SLIPPING COMPONENT}, I NOTICED THAT TRANS OIL IS A LITTLE LIGHT BROWN NOT RED, CAN A DIRTY OR BURNED TRANS OIL CAN CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE ON? GIVING THIS CODE P1870? THANKS. 126000 MILES. V6 3.1L BUICK CENTURY 97.
Yes- the computer is picking up a problem in the transmission [which has about 20+ codes of its own]trans fluid is a reddish burgundy color like power steering fluid when brown means burnt something slipping-or overheating- or clogged filter -change fluid and filter can b an easy fix if caught in time
No but a low fluid level could cause a slip telling the ecm there is a slip top it off then clear the code and drive a few miles if this code comes back i would say there is internal damage to the tranny
