AC and power steering not working on 2002 Dodge Neon

My AC was not working on my 2002 Dodge Neon and now my power steering is gone. Is this likely a belt issue and is there one belt for both the AC and power steering? Is this something easy to fix myself if not mechanically inclined or should I have a mechanic do it? Do you have any idea how much this would cost to have it fixed?
Thanks,
John

Likely just a belt replacement. Its fairly simple if u have experience. Get the proper diagnosis & repair from your mechanic. (no big deal $)

SOURCE: replacing serpentine belt 2002 dodge stratus

Did this on my 2002 Stratus 2.4L. I agree with other poster, you do have to remove the passenger tire and wheel wall to do it, but the tensioner travels clockwise.
Note: I offer this solely as a description of how I accomplished the task on my vehicle. It should not be taken as me advising anyone else in any way on how or whether they manage to repair their own vehicles.

1) Engaged parking brake, loosened lugs on passenger front tire.
2) Jacked-up and placed jack-stand.
3) Removed piece of black under-carriage which surrounds the oil filter and attaches to front bumper. There are at least 10 plastic push-pins to remove and I managed to destroy half of them in the process.
4) Positoned belt over lower pulleys and tensioner (as best as possible) then used a bungee to hold the top end of belt up while I worked under the car.
5) Used a 3/8 ratchet and inserted into square hole attached to the tensioner, disengaged the tensioner (moves clockwise) then used a brace to keep the ratchet handle in that position.
6) From top, removed bungee and finished placing belt over alternator, checked the position of entire belt, reengaged the tensioner, and replaced wall and wheel.

SOURCE: convert manual steering to power steering

Hello, it is possible to add power steering, because the Festiva has a power steering option from the factory. You could find the parts from a salvage yard and have them put on, but my best guess is that it would cost you too much money. Although, Festivas are such good cars, it might be worth the money. A friend of mine added air conditioning to her Festiva and it cost $800, which is about how much you can buy a whole used car for if you're lucky. A typical mechanic would probably charge you about $500 to get the parts and put them on and that's being conservative. Many people who have Festivas do the work themselves because the hourly labor rate of many shops is from $85/hour and up and putting all that power steering equipment on would be at least half a day job and many parts would have to be changed in the steering.

SOURCE: rear window defroster does not work - light says it is on

Your rear defroster has a relay that controls the current sent to the back window.

Question: When you turn on the defroster and the light goes on, does it eventually go off? The relay should have a timer in it that limits how long the defroster runs. If the unit isn't shutting off you may want to check and replace the relay.

If the relay is ok check to see if electricity is getting to the back window. Get a friend who has a multi meter to check for voltage at the back window. There should be contacts somewhere in the vicinity of the window to check. If you have electricity going to the back window and still no defrost. Its probably a short in the tracing on the window. You can look to see if the tracing is visibly broken somewhere on the window. Sometimes when you put stuff in the back seat or on the window ledge it could hit this tracing and break it in a spot. The break causes an open circuit so the tracing doesn't make heat. There are metalic paints designed to repair these breaks without replacing the whole window.

Good luck! And be careful.

SOURCE: The anti theft sensor on the steering colum needs

The sensor is part of the ignition key lock cylinder, so the part and labor will be around $200-$300 depends on your local labor rate, the dealer must do this repair because the new lock cylinder key code must be programmed into the VATS module.

2003 Dodge neon sxt had AC compressor replaced ever since had strange noise now power steering. Went out

Two separate belts. Power steering has it's own belt. Either belt broke or pump went bad. Has nothing to do with the AC system. Just bad luck.

I have a 2002 dodge neon 5 speed manual, that doesn't steer. Steering got stiff while driving then locked up. What is wrong?

First I need to know that we do not live near one another. Where do you live? So i can move if we are close!
You need a new power steering pump. It can be quite dangerous especially if it locks up while in a curve. Get it fixed. ASAP.

I need to add power steering fluid to my 2000 dodge neon. What kind do i need to buy?

Your owner's manual lists the correct fluid. Sometimes it is listed on the P/S fill cap. If you remove all the fluid then use ATF+4 fluid. If you are only topping it off then use ATF+3. This is the same fluid that you use in the Automatic Transmission of your Neon.

a loose belt will not cause the engine to shut off. a loose belt will squeel. it almost sounds like the AC compressor might of locked up and it causing your neon to shut off. if your neon doesnt have ac or the ac is working properly then its something else.
