1994 GMC Jimmy when driven for 2-3 hours, stop and go on errands, when stopped at redlight, then give gas to go again, it cuts out, bucks and backfires. scanner said the sensor that controls fuel amount to computer..mech replace this, ran good and smooth for 2-3 days, then when i had to run errands all morning, it started doing it again...mech took new sensor back and got another, put it on, it ran okay, but not as smooth as it usually did with new sensor, so I took it our for a morning of start and stop errands, and sure enough, it did the cutting out, backfiring and eventually would die...it starts easy when it dies, it just wont get up to speed and run without the cutting, coughing, backfiring. what else could this be?

Fixing my transmission. ... 98 GMC Jimmy tranny problems. mrockerrock ... Never had to replace that and my 98 jimmy has 118000 miles on it.
If you have checked the fuel pressure with a gauge and it is below spec, the pump is inside the gas tank so the tank would need to be dropped. You would need to check the fuel filter and also make sure the pump is getting power before replacing the pump.
look where your gas cap is located on your vehicle look uner to see if you see gas tank cut it out right over top of gas tank becareful though because your fuel line are there to
Test for weak spark when it wont run....my guess is that its the ignition module inside distributer...they heat up and shut off spark, then cool down and work again for a while...good luck..Lee
i think if you checked the sparking plugs and map sensors then check your distributer its maybe not delivering the current nedded to perform the spark to some of the cylinders
MOST LIKELY THE FUEL PUMP HAS FAILED, WHEN U TURN THE KEY TO RUN POSITION DO U HEAR A HUMMING NOISE FROM THE FUEL TANK? THIS NOISE WILL STOP IN ABOUT 5 SECONDS, U CAN HEAR IT BETTER BY TAKING OFF THE GAS CAP AND LISTENING THERE, IF U HEAR NOTHING THEN THE PUMP WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
