Did you check the track for debris and or damage thenRemove the plastic trim piece located between the sun visors (it has the sunroof control switch mounted on it). You will see the sunroof motor mechanism located in the opening. There are about three screws that hold the mechanism in place. If you remove the screws, the mechanism will drop straight down. When the mechanism comes out, the splined drive shaft will disengage from the cable drive pulley located in the sunroof frame. Once the mechanism is removed, the pulley is free to turn and you can manually slide the glass panel.

I'm not familiar with this particular model but it sounds like you ran the motor past the track limits. You will have to take it apart again and reset the motor onto the track, as well as reestablish the track limits for raising and lowering the sunroof. I'm not sure how familiar you are with doing this kind of work, but you would do well to get a factory shop manual in order to do it correctly.
It's not a particularly brilliant system. When you hit the switch, the motor will keep running until it hits the contact on the track that cuts the power. If it doesn't, or the contact is in the wrong place, it will run off the track and then just spin. This true for both directions. Did you notice either of these when you replaced the motor? The shop manual should be able to tell you how to set them correctly.

I rented one of these a few years ago and the sunroof wouldn't open! The mechanics had to pull off panels in the headliner to get to the motor and drives. Also, the tracks that it mounts in need to be checked for alignment...good luck!

Check the sunroof motor track see if there is an instruction or maby something is off track

if it makes a grinding or poping noise it will most likely need new sunroof track cables

sounds like the metal deflector in front of the sunroof,is separated and caught in the roof mechanism, however there are other issues that can cause that condition, it can be anything from a bad sunroof switch to the sunroof tracks jamming, start with looking to see if there any obstuctions in the track..the sunroof mechanism can get costly to repair.

First off, you should leave it closed. At least you can drive it that way. The grinding could be the motor itself, or a gear inside that has rounded or broken teeth. Another possibility is that it has slipped out of a channel or track. Unless you're pretty handy this sounds like a professional repair job.

My 97 Grand Prix sunroof tracks are offset. My driver side track is in the closed position, and the passenger side track is in a half open position. When the problem happened I was closing the roof and heard a hard clicking. It stopped working from that moment on. The tracks werent offset as much as they are now before I took the glass off. When I removed the glass, the passenger side track sprung back about 6 inches. The motor works, but the tracks only move about a half inch forward and backwards. Its cable operated and my guess is that one side jumped the track or a gear or something. Anybody help?

Go to the library and find the Manuel you need and photo copy it .or if you have a smart phone (goto how do I fix my vw year make and problem.and will have some thing there for shure.

ounds like you sunroof is out of its track just stop by a body shop they can readjust it and its alot cheaper than toyota
