It is a rather involved job to replace the bearings, it will involve removing the A/C clutch and disassembling the compressor. I would check to see if the noise is coming from the A/C clutch or the compressor, itself. The A/C clutch isn't to hard to replace. I would really consider a replacement compressor.
You don't you change the compressor. but i would try putting lubricant into the system first. over time the system can lose freon and with it will go the lubricant. if it gets too low the compressor may be damaged and sometimes replacing the lube will bring it back to life. you should try before replacing the compressor. good luck
