Sounds like something in the valvetrain, a lifter or rocker arm. Could be from lower oil. Is it a metallic sound? Is the noise coming from a certain area of the motor?

Wont start sometimes, only when i pour gas into the intake manifold. and then cant keep it started. only stays running by lightly tapping the accelerator

it sounds like there is no fuel getting to intake.
when you step down on accelerator, it is designed to squirt a shot of fuel into the intake, which would keep it running for a few seconds. same as pouring gas down intake.

you never stated if you had carburation or injection system, in either case no fuel is getting through on its own.
which could be a variety of problems depending on which system you had.

My 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7 has a power surge issue. I hit the gas and the lights go bright but then the gauges on the dash stop working. Hit the gas again and they start working for a second but go off...

When you accelerate the engine it rocks a bit under the hood. A loose/internally broken ground wire/cable under the hood is a possibility. Look for any and all wires/cables under the hood that might be loose. Wiggle all of these wires and don't forget any ground wires coming off the negative battery post. There are, I believe, ground wires at different areas under the hood. You might find your problem with one of these ground wires. The other possibility is at idle not a ton of charge is being generated from the charging system. Above idle an over charging voltage regulator can be the problem. It may be integrated into the PCM or be part of the alternator. A voltage charge test will reveal this. So, there are two possible sources of malfunction. Best of luck. And don't give up, you'll figure it out.

1996 crown victoria misfiring loss of power under light to heavy acceleration, rough idle

The plug wires on this model year and prone to burn through, replace them all, do one at a time and always put them back in the factory wire looms they run through, that is very important, replace any you may break. Use high qyuailty oplug wuires foractory parts are preferred..

My 1994 BMW 525i e34 came up with the Trans Program warning. Accelerator would not rev the engine!

sounds as if the accelerater cable broke, when you were able to throttle under the hood did you happen to notice if the accelerater cable was moving freely.

Tapping from upper left area under hood

Replace the egr, or if you want to be sure, have a friend give it gas ( unless you are familiar with the throttle body) while you listen under the hood. You should be looking between the firewall an engine. Once you locate it, you will know if your tapping is coming from the egr. Could be that something is touching a fan, or even the cv joint (would get worse during turns). Best bet, get under the hood and check it out. If the egr code is coming up, it needs to be replaced.

I have a 1996 ford ranger supercab and when i sont even have my foot on the gas it still idels between 25 and 30 mph and it also spudders sometimes

Don't do this with your truck in gear but if you can get the engine to drop down closer to a normal idle by tapping the accelerator pedal, it is probably just a case of dry linkage under the hood. Use a lubricating spray (no WD-40, it evaporates) on the linkage you see moving when the accelerator pedal is moved. A weak return spring can cause this too but is a less common problem.

Heard a grinding sound under hood. Car then died.

So does the a/c still work, maybe your compressor is bad? Top off your oil and run the engine and see if you can find out where the oil came from?

1997 s10 2 wheel drive truck. 4.3L v6 makes a loud noise as the car accelerates fast or under load. When running 55 I can release the gas pedal and the noise is not audible. I can put the truck in neutral...

Your noise sounds like it is power train related,If you have eliminated the engine,Since it doesn't make the noise while moving and in neutral.
It sounds like a universal joint in the drive shaft.Do you notice a vibration
along with the noise?
