The longer bolt has nothing to do with it not starting. Vacuum leak could but unlikely. Either your starter is getting overheated from heat transfer from the engine, or the distributor timing isn't set right. I would check the timing first and find TDC and rest the distributor into the block. If you need a video for reference, check out YOUTUBE.COM and search set timing on whatever engine you decide to check.

Nissan altima 1997 hesitate at stops, wants to die but still runs rpms fluctuate

My best guess is gonna be a vaccum leak... pick up a cheap can of carb cleaner. Start your car and listen for a whistle or something close. it will probly be near or behind the throttle body. take your carb cleaner and spray it with out the little red hose around the back coner on the driver side of the motor. you can visually inspect the area after you hear an increase the idle. if you dont find it there spray all around any where you see a hose. Hope it helps. a vaccum leak usually wont set a check engine light on OBD 1 cars. Good luck.

I have a gmc truck with a 351E v6 it will not idle there is a line opening on the back of the carb plate and a small line that comes off of the left side of the carb. Where do those lines go to? It is not...

I don't have a diagram but I think the replacement carburetor may have come off an engine that had a governor which was activated by a plunger under the distributor plate. The vacuum lines went between the carburetor and distributor. Check to see if there is vacuum at one of the lines when the engine is runnuing. If there is just plug it off. A vacuum leak could be causing your idle problem.

I have a 1989 ford econoline with a straight six engine. It runs great when i get going, but when i come to a stop sign it dies. It also dies after about a minute when it is idling. Can anyone help. Im...

check for a vaccum leak. you can use carb cleaner around the side of the carb and around vaccum lines. if it lowers the idle or kills it `its a vaccum issue easily fixed. could also be low quality fule try running a carb/ fuel injector cleaner through your fuel. if none of these work then id goto a more expensive solution.

Hubs will not enguage when set to auto

the hubs on that truck are a vaccum controled hub, when the swithch is turned to 4x4 the vaccum control solenoid (on the fender) applys vaccum to the hub and locks- you can put a vaccum gauge on the hubs- if a leak is found thre is an o ring and an axle hub seal that needs to be replaced... if no leak is found at the hubs check the vac. lines and solenoid.goodluck

IDLE @ ABOUT 3000 RPM

Bottom bolts on carb loose. Not the mounting bolts. You have to take carb off to see them on the bottom of the carb.

Wont start

Check the backside bottom of the carb. there's a vacuum port there. Make sure it's plugged up. How's you timing? Also try rotating distributor back and forth. It may be a timing issue. Not enough or too much.
