Hello trhino69.

The Regal has two position sensors.
One on the crankshaft and another on the camshaft.
If the crankshaft sensor isn't reading it will not start.
On the other hand if the camshaft sensor isn't reading it will start but the fuel injectors will revert to non-sequential firing.
The crankshaft sensor is mounted at the crankshaft harmonic balancer.
It is #4 in the diagram below.

What is it you are looking for.
Perhaps your question is somewhat confusing.
Were you speaking of the ignition switch itself ?
I know I can help you with this question but we will need to communicate the exact issue.
    Thank you.

2001 buick regal w/ bad ignition coil and clogged catylitic conv.

Hello! The defective ignition coil more than likely contaminated the downstream O2 sensor...If there isn't a trouble code and engine performs in a normal fashion, there's no reason to change the upstream sensor...

Cannot remove key from ignition in 2002 buick regal

Ive been having the same problem for a long time. Its pretty annoying. I found some advice on http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/buick-regal/TVD54JHIP8DJ0LKKT

One says there is a release button you can get to under the steering column, but you have to have a screw driver. Caution though: If the key does not turn all the way down before you pull it out, even with the release, your car can still be started, even without the key in it. I did this.. kinda scary. Also, if the keys not all the way in the 'off' position and you take the key out, you cant automatically lock the doors. FYI.

My '98 Buick Regal won't start randomly but fires right up when it does. randomly when you turn the key to start it does absolutely nothing. No warning lights or clicks - absolutely nothing. All the...

It dosent need a new steering column. But It very well may need an ingnition position sensor. It is a sensor that identifies what position the key is in. Obviously if it was malfunctioning it would not recognize you have the key in the start position, and when it does it suddenly fires. I had a 95 Regal that had the same problem, not a cheap one but pretty necessary.

Winshield Wiepers,1998 Buickregal

apparently, something inside the wiper motor spun and now it thinks the down position is the up position.

a new wiper motor is my only suggestion since the sensors/controls in these motors arent user serviceable.

Good luck and be careful!

I have a 1991 Buick Regal. Once the car starts, and the engine gets hot, the car will die out, and not start again til cooled off.

one of 2 items are probable. have the ignition module tested. also check the crank position sensor.check for spark and injector pulse when it dies.

1999 Buick Regal LS, 170,000 km (~105,000 miles). Stalls at random city speeds, usually when decelerating or at a stop. It's OK on the highway. I don't think it's the ignition because it usually takes a...

Check the crankshaft position sensor. It is located forward of the harmonic balancer.Quite often the bracket that holds it gets broke or loosens up allowing sensor to rub on balancer.

2002 buick regal won't start

I have a 2003 buick regal. I found a small cover or tab about 3/4 of an inch square under the bottom of the steering column cover. If you remove that tab and take a thin object , like a phillips screwdriver and shove it up that hole it will release the ignition so you can turn it back and pull out your key. What a great discovery!

2002 Buick Regal wiper motor parks wrong on dlay

remove cowling under hood to expose wiper motor linkage. You have to try it many times but the linkage may not be attached in the correct arc position. Trial by error.

2002 Buick Regal

Could be a poor ground connection. Check all grounds, clean battery cables. Could also be the ignition switch.
