Below is a diagram for 3.5L engines. The tension pulley should be the middle left pulley. There should be a tension screw just above it. Loosen the tensioner pulley, route the new belt according to the diagram and while applying pressure to the pulley, tighten it until it's secure.

Installing timing belt is not very hard. Install the timing belt onto the pulleys, as follows, crankshaft pulley first, then the idler pulley, exhaust camshaft pulley, intake camshaft pulley, and the tensioner pulley. Just make sure the timing marks are set exact and not got moved from its actual position.------ If in-case,you missed the timing marks. Then you need to align it exactly, other wise there will be problem.------ For timing belt replacing and timing belt diagram, click the link below:--- http://carbeltrouting.blogspot.com/2011/10/2003-kia-spectra-timing-belt.html ------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Changing serpentine belt on 2000 chevy silverado 1500 4.8 v8

The belt has tension applied to it from an idler pulley arm. you need to release tension by using a socket and ratchet on the nut on the idler pulley. Release tesion and slide belt off . Make sure you have the diagram for serpentine belt. it is usualy under the hood. If not make a diagram yorself before removing belt.

I want to replace the serpentine belt but I can't find a diagram in the engine compartment to show how it runs. I don't have a service manual. I'm trying to find a diagram in the owner's manual but there...

Get a socket wrench w/o socket and place squareend into hole or notch whatever you want to call it and push down torelease pressure, a short breaker bar may also be needed to get youmore leverage... if you cannot figure out the tension arm from this thenyou need to consult a mechanic or have a buddy lend you a hand.

Note:
Now on the older 2.2l and 2.0 engines thetensioner is the idler pulley, GM found out later down the line that itwas best to just add a tensioner instead of using the idler... I don'thave an exact year of when they changed because i have changed them on96 with the tensioner and I've been getting some feed back that 97'shaven't so... if you the tensioner above use that and not the idler andif no tensioner use the blue circle... idler pulley...

Brown circle- power steering
Blue circle- Idler pulley
Purple circle- Alternator pulley
Green circle- A/C if applicable
Yellow circle- Water pump pulley
Pink circle- Crankshaft Pulley
Red Arrow points to your tensioner.

Ineed to replace the serpintine belt, mine shreded, went and purchased replacement from lordco auto parts, could not seem to get belt to tighten up could you please advise the correct belt part # as well...

There is a idler wheel that has a bolt that when loosened will cause it to spring back. As you lay under the car with your feet first inward ( looking straight up from under vehicle snake the belt through and over the pulleys then pry back with a long pry bar the idler pulley lever after loosening bolt on wheel or lever as you put the belt over the pulleys. I have done this belt on a 1999 528 i it is a unpleasant job without a diagram showing the serpentine pulley arrangement, there is a second idler pulley located slightly higher than the release locking idler pulley don't confuse the two, I would advise aquiring a serpentine belt diagram (cd repair manual on ebay motors) unless you are confident you can figure it out through trial and error.

Instructions

Just did mine today.....Jack up the front as high as possible, remove front passenger wheel, put jackstands under car so it doesn't come down on you, remove the plastic inside fender well by taking out the 2 bolts and 3 plastic toggles, you need to remove the alternator belt to get to the power steering belt so loosen the center nut on the idler pulley/tensioner and then loosen the idler using the bottom nut/bolt to take the tension off the belt, remove the alternator belt first drawing a picture of how the belt is routed on all the pulleys for reassembly. Now loosen the 2 face nuts/bolts on the power steering belt idler pulley/tensioner and then use the nut/bolt on it's bottom to take the tesion off the belt and then remove the belt. Reinstall the belt and reverse everything to get it back together. Put on a new alternator belt on while your at it.
