Question about 1994 GMC Jimmy

2 Answers

It runs for about 2-3 miles at 60 mph and then stalls. Restarts easy then gas pedal flutters or it starts to lunge while driving only to get up to 20-25 mph. Stop then restart and takes off fine to 55-60 mph. Fuel economy is bad. first tank got only 150 miles. second got 130 miles and we are now on third tank and only 52 miles to 1/10 tank. Replace fuel tank, fuel pump, sending unit, fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wire, distributor cap, rotor, and air temp sensor. Fuel economy a little better but it still stalls. can you help me?

First off, I appreciate your thorough description of what the symptoms are, ok lets go on. It sounds like your air/fuel ratio is off and is getting progressively worse. I don't think you will get this on the first guess. There are things you need to check out with the trucks systems to help narrow your search down. I don't know the trucks maintenance history but if you know that may help.
Look at the EGR valve, if it is stuck that would let an uncontrolled amount of exhaust gas back into the engine for reburn.
If the CAT is clogged the excessive back-pressure would cause the engine to run richer thus loosing gas mileage.
You really need a scan-tool to help. This type of device would allow you to look at live data and see if the component is operating within the specified range. Also a repair manual would help describe to you, the procedures to test suspected components. If you have anymore questions, let me know.

Depending on the actual code for the O2 sensor, the fuel pressure may be low at times. You may want to look at fuel pressure and delivery.

1997 astro misses at 50-60 mph with steady pedal pressure. when under acceleration runs fine. Also misses while passing through lower gears when starting from a stop.

This sounds like a partially blocked fuel injector. Easy fix is to run a bottle of STP or some other type of fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank. You should see some improvement within 100 miles of driving. More costly but faster is take the car to a shop that cleans fuel injectors. Hope this helps

Change plug wires. Most often, plug wires will only short out when they are under load, so you don't notice anything until your motor is doing a little extra work.

Vam stalling

there are too many reasons...

it could be fuel pump,, it could be ignition coil overheating, it could be the computer itself...

you need two things for the engine to run,

1 is gas
2nd is ignition,,

with these two misfiring or your loosing one of them, it will stall...

i hope i was able to give you some thoughts....
