The pcm (powertrain control module ) is telling you it has a set code in the memory. Take the car to a parts place like (auto zone ) and have them to run a scam on the pcm for a trouble code. Once you have done that then you will be able to correct the problem. Hope this will help you.

My car wont stay idling

Lets start with figuring out why the check engine light is on. You can get a blinkout of the the code by switching you key to the on and off position three times quickly and leaving it in the on position on the final time (note, do not take the key so far that it tries to start the engine). So start with the key in, and engine off, quickly turn the key to on, then off, then on, then off, then on and leave it there. Now watch your check engine light. It will blink out any codes that may be stored. The blinking will have breaks between each code and each code is a two digit number. For instance, blink short pause, blink blink, long pause, blink, blink, blink, pause, blink, blink, would be codes 12 and 32. I believe the final code is 55 and just simply means "end of codes". That should at least tell you if its an issue the ECU has detected. You can do a quick google search to find out what each code it spits out means. As for a guess as to why it isn't idling...I've seen everything from a failing fuel pump (inadequate pressure), to a clogged EGR valve cause this. Could be quite a few things unfortunately. Good luck!

92 dodge dakota 5.2 4x4 won't stay running, hard

What fault codes do you have? to check for fault codes using the check engine light blink method do the following, turn the key to run and then off, then to run and then off, then to run and watch the check engine light, count the blinks, there will be a pause and then more blinks, that is the code(s) So lets say it blinks 2 times and then 5 times, that is code 25. Google the code or codes under the heading: "Dodge OBD1 fault codes"

My intrepid runs good but the engine lite stays on it runs an egr wire malfuntion and i replaced the egr check the wires and i cant figure out what is making the engine lite stay on i need help i cant...

Use a Auto Scanner tool, fallow step by step reading process, take note witch code number "show" as defective, possible sensor fail, after replaces erase code using your Auto Scanner.Do it the same if another code number come out.

Unless you have a code checker with a reset switch, the easiest way to reset the light is just to remove the negative battery terminal for several minutes. That will usually do it.

Also, you don't actually need a code checker to pull the codes. With the engine shut off, you can quickly turn the key back and forth twice between the OFF and RUN positions. On the third switch from off to run leave it in the run position. The engine light will flash one or more two-digit codes. For example, if the light blinks twice, then pauses, then blinks three more times that's error code 2-3.

D4 light on no matter what gear i'm in. 95 Honda Accord LX 4-cylinder. Already replaced solinoid, speedometer, fan,

The D4 light is coming on to tell you that there is one or more fault codes set in your transmission control module. The only way to retrieve codes on the 1995 models is to read "Flash Codes" output by the D4 light. (See instructions below)

RETRIEVING FLASH CODES USING THE D4 LIGHT
If fault codes are present, the D4 light will "blink" when the ignition is turned to the RUN position and will remain on at all times when the engine is running.
To retrieve the flash codes, turn the ignition switch off.
Install a jumper wire between the service check connector terminals.
The service check connector is a gray, 2-pin connector located on the PCM/TCM cover under the passenger side of the instrument panel. (See picture below)

CAUTION: DO NOT use the 3-pin located next to the service check connector.

Installing the jumper will place the PCM/TCM in diagnostic test mode.
Turn the ignition to the RUN position. Codes will be output by blinking the D4 light.
Note the number of blinks from the D4 light. A short blink indicates a single digit flash code. A long blink equals 10 short blinks. For instance one short blink indicates code 1. One long blink and four short blinks indicates code 14. If there is more than one fault code, they will be output one at a time from the lowest numbered code to the highest numbered code. It is recommended that you read the code or codes several times to make sure that you are reading it correctly.

Once you have retrieved the fault code(s) re-post your question and include the information for what codes you have and someone can then help you locate the cause of the problem.

Stops while driving

this is usually due to a dirty throttle body. just beware if you do try to clean it you will need to preform the idle relearn procedure. this does work, ive done it personally.

A. Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning Procedure.
1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds (how would you know if you get it right?)

B. Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning
1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch is “ON”.
3. Turn ignition switch is “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound (i never get this right because i never heard anything)

C. Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)
It's best to time with a watch/clock.

1. Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”.
2. Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”.
3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
4. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
5. Conform that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops
blinking and turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
11 Wait 20 seconds
12Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications. (this is fine because SES light lets you know if you did it right the way it blinks)

Reset check engine light

First of all, you should'nt do this unless you know what the problem is.. or what tripped it. I had this problem when my husband and I were replacing a head unit and disconnected the old head unit, a/c and other stuff then turn the car on. This made the light flash. The first time we took it in and got charged $50 to reset it. The second time we did this procedure and it worked.

ECU Resetting Procedures

Timing is extremely critical. If it is NOT DONE within the specify time, the ECU will not reset and the Check Engine Light (CEL) will continue to remain ON.
A stop watch or an analog clock with a second’s needle will be useful.

Reset Check Engine Light Procedures

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 seconds.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.
