CarGurusNov 15, 2012 - The engine just fall dead when you step on the gas; it seems to jerk before ... My car does the same thing but i put it in neutral n it starts up. ... I have a 2004 kia optima it jerks when I go into reverse it was driving ... start and run fine butwhen I put it in drive or any other gear it dies! ... 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT.
I have run into this problem on that particular type of engine usually changing the filters in a good tune up takes care of most of it if you have an electronic fed speedometer you could have a dirty sensor if its a manual cable it probably needs a little lubrication after tune up and oil change if the problem can persist with no check engine light showing tune up usually cures the problem put some fuel injection cleaner into the tank run it through after the tune up and 75 to 80 percent of the time your problem will be cared thank you robert
Have some one ( with engine OFF) slowly shift from 1st to Reverse, YOU be out side and watch the linkage and tranny movement. WHAT you may have is loose bracket, tranny, or support bolts. bigAl
Your right about too much electronics ,and no the front clutch works all motion in the gearbox ,now iam not sure about this model but the renault gearbox that i have worked on fairly regular compared to other makes has a solonoid inside the gearbox that is operated by the lever for drive and reverse ,now the problem here is you have to remove the gearbox sump to test it ,also here in spain the parts are not sold seperate but only a complete exchange gearbox and if you ask at the dealer they will want to just change the gearbox as more profit in this than a repair but try a independante auto box garage which you will have in america or the Uk even germany but spain?? Now here their called granny boxes for old pensioners from northern europe and you would be laughed at trying to ask for a repair ,
sounds like the EGR valve get clogged by the diesel sludge, it could be cleaned, depending on the valve, one side could get blocked off. but we often changed the valve.
your idle air control motor is messed up needs replaced first test with a voltmeter also check make sure you dont have no vacumm leaks pop the hood listen for a loud sucking noise check all vacumm lines make sure not came unplugged then check aic
I don't currently have access to step by step instructions for your Kia Sorento, but I would imagine that it takes a standard tool ratcheting tool set to unscrew the bolts for the shroud, and lift any fans out of the way. Then, the radiator hold down hardware can be removed and the radiator should be disconnected fromt he cooling system (via the hoses) and then you can pull it out. It does not weigh much.
Installation is the reverse of the removal. --- recalls for engine follow:
