The ECM is located under the dashboard. Try this before you replace the ECM change the pick up coil in the distributor the symptoms you are having usually happens when the pick up coil get hot and is defective. Here's how disconnect the battery, remove the distributor cap and you will see a disc like object below the rotor. It may have two or three screws holding it in place remove them and then remove the pick up cool. They start at $24.99
When was the last tune up? There is a few things that come to mind. possible low fuel pressure, dirty fuel injector, throttle body could need cleaning, dirty fuel filter, water in the fuel, spark plugs need to be replaced or re gapped. I need more information to try to be more helpful.
1. Start engine
2. allow to idle
3. remove fuel pump fuse while engine running
4. with fuse still removed restart 1-3 more times to clear any fuel from system.
System D/P'd.
Idle air control valve and possibly the throttle position sensor contacts are worn the both of them expand from heat and break contact but try first using carbon conductive grease on the plug contacts there could be oxidation or corrosion in them causing the problem before you start spending $$$$ you spent big money already with no result ?good luck stephen
You can order a remanufactured engine from any NAPA or Carquest auto parts store (my 1st choice for quality), there are many other sources including Autozone, Advance auto parts and many more. Expect to pay about $1800.00+rebuildable core charge.
This depends where you live ,but in most large meto areas you must pass the emissions test set by your state and they get this from the federal gov't.I you live hopefully some where that emissions testing are not required your vehicle should run just fine with out what your talking about, but please note that it is illeagle to take off any part of your factory emissions system. The fed's and the state are very strict on this the fine are huge ,much cheaper to fix what is broken if this is the case. The Crown Vic's mostly came with 5.0 -- 302 engines that just run forever 1 of ford's best motors they ever built.Good luck I hope this helps ya out .
this is tough, two things I can think of, the first is the coil, if it is not ground good there wont be a good spark or a defective coil,,,, but i am leaning more to it being the timing chain jumped a cog,,, the computer would start the engine advansed but as the engine warmed it would ****** the spark ,,, after 5-10 min. it would quit,, this I would if it si a higher milage car. Tony
The problem could be many things. Is the engine light on? Check for proper fuel pressure. Remove one spark plug and inspect. Your vehicle may just need a simple tune up. Spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter.
