Not sure what the other wires go to, maybe the air bag, regardless all instruments are working on the '89.

I assume you only want lights, brake lights and signals. Your best bet is to plug a wire onto your truck... the flat plug, and turn , first the left signal, on. Use a test light to see which part of the plug in is flashing. Once you have established that, just keep plugging the other end of the wire into the trailer plug, until you get the left turn signal flashing on the trailer. Then repeat the process for lights etc.
You can also take the plug-in apart on the trailer. Inside the plug in it will have l/t, r/t, s, etc. (left turn, right turn, stop, etc.) There will be a very small arrow pointing to the terminal connection that is for each.
Testimonial: "Thanks, that should be an easy and sure way."

Start pulling fuses, one at a time, with an AMP meter in series with a battery cable. When you find anything over a few Mili Amps still on,you found the item, assuming every system has timed out. Some may take 15 min to do so. 40 Mili Amp will always be there, to power memory, clock, etc.
