First....try this test. If you don't want to mess with the test, check the connector. If it is fine, replace the oil pressure sensor:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition ON (engine off ).
  2. Verify if the oil warning lamp lights.
  3. turn ignition off.
  4. Check the engine oil level. Adjust as necessary.
  5. If engine oil level is within specification disconnect the engine oil pressure switch connector.
  6. If the oil warning lamp goes out:
    • Remove the oil pressure switch.
    • Connect an oil pressure gauge in its place.
    • Start the engine.
    • If the pressure reading is 4.0 PSI or greater at idle :
      • Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
      • Check if gauge reading is 4.0 PSI or greater with the engine fully warm and at idle.
      • If pressure gauge reading is 4.0 PSI or greater replace the oil pressure switch.
  7. If the oil pressure warning lamp doesn’t go out when disconnecting the oil pressure switch connector:
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster.
    • With an ohmmeter measure the oil pressure switch sense circuit to ground.
    • If the resistance is below 5.0 ohms, repair the oil pressure switch sense circuit for a short to ground.
    • If the resistance is above 5.0 ohms, repair or replace the instrument cluster as necessary.
  8. If the oil pressure warning lamp doesn’t light when turning the ignition switch on, disconnect the oil pressure switch connector.
  9. Connect a jumper wire between the oil pressure switch sense circuit and ground.
  10. If the warning lamp lights, replace the oil pressure switch.
  11. If the warning lamp doesn’t light, keep the jumper wire connected and disconnect the instrument cluster.
    • With an ohmmeter measure the oil pressure switch sense circuit to ground:
      • If the resistance is above 5.0 ohms repair the open oil pressure switch sense circuit between the switch and the instrument cluster.
      • If the resistance is below 5.0 ohms remove the oil pressure warning lamp from the instrument cluster and inspect it.
      • Replace the lamp if open.
      • If the lamp is in good condition, replace or repair the instrument cluster as necessary.

        Disconnect electrical connector.

        Unscrew oil pressure switch .

    To install:

Apply Mopar® Thread Sealant to the switch threads.

Install oil pressure switch to fitting.

        Connect electrical connector.

        Lower vehicle.

Start engine and check for leaks.

I have a 2009 ford KA and when driving on motorways the oil light flickers yet the oil is showing at the max level mark on the dip stick.???

The light is flickering due to low oil pressure or a faulty sender unit.
The first thing to do is to change the oil filter. If it hasn't been changed for a long time it will restrict the flow of oil going through the filter.

When i stop at a robot my oil light starts to come on,i checked the iol and its fine on the dip stick.

Sounds like you are losing oil pressure when low rpm's. Try putting high mileage oil and filter and see if it continues, If it does you may have a screen in the oil pan that is clogged where it goes into the pump causing low oil pressure when under idle conditions.

Would a bad oil pressure switch cause an above safe oil level on the dip stick

if to much oil in vehicle --not on level ground --engine running while checking oil -or not swiping stick clean before reading it these are reasons for high reading on dip stick oil pressure sensor/switch only measures the pressure of the oil

Should I be concerned about the oil pressure light flickering when I brake hard or idle?

Yes, the oil is the life line to the engine, without proper pressure or circulation the engine will die, no different than us humans. The reason why the light goes off is that the engine is running at higher RPM pushing more pressure to the sensor therefore it turn off the light. When the engine running at low RPM the oil pressure is low therefore it not enough pressure to turn off the switch. 1st. it cheap, replace the oil pressure switch and make sure the oil dip stick at proper level. If replacing oil pressure switch does not rectified the issue, the oil pump might be going bad and not pumping proper pressure. Replacing oil pump is a major job. remember, on any vehicle, if it run proper there should be no lights on and that is the reason why they put the lights there for a reason. Check and see you have a small oil leaks.

Where does the motor oil go for a durango 2001?

pop the hood and on top close to middle of the engine, theres a black plastic cap with either an oil dripper icon on it or oil written on it. pour the oil into there. easier with funnel. keep checking the oil dip stick to make sure you don't over fill it. take out the dipstick, wipe oil off with towel, fully reinsert dip stick, then immediatley take back out to see the level. the oil mark should be between fill and full marks. If you have enough oil in the motor, and the oil light is flickering on and off you might need an oil pressure sensor (take to local shop)

How to check the oil. The dip stick has no method of measuring other than a small white knob on the end.

Done with scanner and it reads out oil level in mm. If oil level low, a warning with show on cluster.

Most modern vehicles measure oil level this way....as well as the transmission.

The Dip Stick tube is only for sucking out the oil. This is known as 'Top Side Evacuation'.

Some DIY types collect and measure the drained oil and refill with same amount.

Oil light.

cheapest thing to do is replace oil pressure sender ,unless you have an oil pressure gauge to test actual pressure, sender should be near oil filter housing could be 1 to 3 wire connector, you'll need special socket to r&r part, also make sure car idles normal when hot, if surging or low you may get light flicker in drive.
