2001 Jaguar S-type 3.0. Neither the inside trunk release button (under dash) nor the button on the trunk lid work, but the remote release on the key fob works fine. I suspected a fuse, but the fuse seemed to be fine. I find it hard to believe the on vehicle buttons use a completely different path then the remote.
Well don't feel stupid. You just explained my problem
Even if the path was mostly the same and used the same solenoid they would use different switches and thus a few different wires. I would be more inclined to suspect the wiring. The keyfob setup may provide its own ground where the on car switches use a frame ground or have their own power supply. Ill admit that I am not an expert on this particular vehicle but if this is an aftermarket unit the installer may have used two solenoids. The stock one may be bad. Even the manufacturer may have used two. Would have to take the door apart to be sure. Id be doing that anyway for testing purposes.

I feel so stupid about posting this problem. It was the valet switch in the glove box. Seems having too many napkins was depressing the switch when I closed the glove box - dummy me!!!
Thanks all for responding and helping out. Have a great day.
