Sound like a blown head gasket. Changing the knock sensor will not remove a knock. It's a sensor.

the sensor is located at the rear side of cylinder head between transmission and engine under the thermostat hosing but make sure to have some one aply direct power to fan to se if fan still goos if not replace it, and the sensor all what you have to do to test it start the car unplug the sensor and if the fan come on then replace the sensor i will recomend to replace thermostat also and make sure is full of coolant

SOURCE: car overheats. have replaced radiator, thermostat.water

Question that I pose is:
Is the car overheating or are you assuming it is as the gauge is telling you that it is?
There are two cheap and simple things that are not mentioned in this post. There is an Engine coolant temp sensor which in all of their innane wisdom Saturn built with a plastic tip and we all know plastic melts fairly easily. This part is a simple fix as it needs a 13mm deep socket and that is it for tools to replace it and it is $10 - $15 for a new on with a copper tip. There is also an Engine coolant temp switch which sends information to the PCM to tell the gauge what the reading should be. Aslo $10 - $15 and a 13MM deep socket to replace. These are common issues with the S Series Saturns. I do however recomend that if you are going to replace them yourself that you empty the radiator of coolant as the sensor and switch are directly in the engine block coolant flow and will give you a nice little shower if you do not at least jack the drivers side up before replacing them.

SOURCE: overheating engine

Check your freon level on your AC system. If unit is low, it can actually put out more heat in front of the radiator. Does it overheat when the AC is off?

SOURCE: overheating on stop and go traffic

I had the same problem on my SL1 2002 and my wifes SL2 2001. In both cases, the electric radiator fan motor needed replacing. It was not difficult but took me a full day of trying to figure out how to pull the plastic housing it is mounted in. Someone who knows what they are doing could have changed it in a half hour. Works great now.

How do I start 1997 chevy express 3500 with the wires?

You can't. It has an anti-theft device. The days of boosting a car with a couple of wires ended in the 1980s! You have to fix the problem, not find a way around it.

I have a 05 chevy venture van new water pump new thermostat fluid topped off bled the system and it still getting hot any ideas

Are you going by the temp gauge on the dash to say it's overheating ? Did you hook up a scan tool an look at live data from the coolant temp sensor to the PCM/ECM - engine computer ? Use a infrared thermometer to check engine temp at the thermostat housing ? Don't remember how many gm instrument clusters i sent to be fixed . GM had a problem with stepper motors inside the instrument cluster , stepper motors control the gauges needles . 2003 to 2006 this was a problem . you mite think it's overheating whens it's not .

Hello. How can I know if my 1997 Chevy Astro Van's water pump need to be replaced? Thanks

A water pump should last 60,000 to 90,000 miles, about the same amount of time as a timing belt.

Common signs include coolant leaks at the front-center of the car, loose water pump pulley, overheating engine, and steam coming from the radiator.

1997 chevy express van overheated now no oil pressure

sounds like possibly head gaskets, when you overheated probably warped heads causing coolant in oil and coolant in cylinders therefore partially hydrolocking...antifreeze does not compress like fuel vapors .check oil and see if looks like creme to light chocholate color. this means coolant in oil, this is very ******* bearings, eats them up and if thats the problem you loose oil pressure cause bearings are sloppy from being worn. Bottom Line.you might be looking for another enj.or rebuild

I have a 1997 dodge grand caravan with a 3.8L I replaced the radiator cooling fan relay switch and fuses but when idling for more than 5 mins. the van starts overheating

Water pump impeller could be bad or thermostat is stuck shut. I would change thermostat first, easy to change, cost under $10.00 Water pump is hard to change in this van, you have to remove right tire, then inside wheel well, then loosen 3 top motor mount bolts which will lower engine so you can get to water pump and tensioner.
