The 4.3L V6 is known for idling high when the car has around 100,000 miles more or less. The cutting out could be a fuel filter or fouled/dirty spark plugs but more likely bad spark plug wires. Replacing them all should only run about $80 if you perform the work. Just make sure you get AC Delco spark plugs with a decent set of aftermarket plug wires and do those one at a time so they stay in the same order to avoid misfire/hesitation issues.
