If this is a hydraulic clutch, ask your mechanic to change the master cylinder (slave cylinder). This could have a leak (which he/she should have found, and checked this). If not, the cable may be too loose, or is not hooked up correctly.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

This has nothing to do with the hydraulic system. This application uses the release fork to pull on the throw-out bearing rather than push it. The T-O bearing is attached to the pressure plate by pushing the bearing into a spring steel wedge collar assembly centered in the pressure plate. Once pushed in, it should not pull out. But somehow it does. Mine did twice. I just took the clutch kit back and exchanged the whole set. I'll post my results/findings when I finish the install. Anyone seen a resolution of this problem before? Thanks

I know its an old topic, but this deserves an answer! Many people have had this problem because some aftermarket parts are not made properly. I found bad ones at Checker and Auto-Zone. The hardened steel ring within the pressure plate fingers needs to have a recess machined to exact specs. The release bearing, spring steel wedge-collar and ring assembly must engage fully into that recess with only a few thousandth of an inch clearance on the side. I looked at 5 different assemblies before I found 1 that was close to the original equipment tolerances. If you insist on aftermarket parts, check the assembled fit against how your original parts fit. My suggestion is to buy OEM parts from the dealer or online. I found it easy to look up the correct parts on Hondapartsnow.com. Good luck!

1996 Mazda MX6 Clutch pedal has no push back from floor but still shifts

I am not a mazda guy but it sounds like the pressure plate is bad. Have you check the clutch linkage to be sure something did not slip or break. If so I would be looking at the clutch pressure plate.

Clutch problem

I would think you have a hydraulic clutch, so there should be a return spring on the pedal or the master cylinder.

My clutch won't engage 1997 Honda civic

Clutch plate and pressure plate seem to be too weak to pull the car. To test the clutch plate, park the car on flat surface. Pull the hand brake up, start the car, depress the foot brake pedal, depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, press the gas pedal and leave the clutch pedal at once, while keeping the brake pedal depressed.
Follow one of the two following statements:
1. Engine does not shut down and remain start. (Clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing defective - Replace all as a set)
2. Engine shuts down. (Clutch system is OK and does not require any repair).

Have you checked the pedal spring?
Most cars but not all have a pedal hanger spring, this keeps the pedal up and off the floor even if not connected to anything.
These springs do break and when they do the symptoms you report are the outcome.
If you get on the floor and look up at your pedal hangers, and with your free hand check the pedal operation/swing. If your vehicle has this spring you will see it as you look up, if the spring is broken it is a simple job to replace it.

Some vehicle have a spring like this:

While other vehicles have a spring like this:

I have a 2001 holden rodeo turbo diesel and only just got the clutch and pressure plate replaced two days ago and now when you put your foot on the clutch it feels as though you are putting your foot on...

possibly air trapped in hydraulic clutch system causes pedal to go low and hard like brake pedal,
bleed from bleed nipple on firewall (bulkhead) under bonnet, left side of vehicle then under neath at slave cylinder.
when left for a while or turn vehicle off it comes good again due to air in line shifts position
these can be tricky to bleed also due to pedal doesnt come up when bleeding must pull up with foot or hand do it slowly and pump it for a while before opening bleeder nipple again.
hopefully you put the clutch fork in the right way again if you replaced the thrust bearing and the bearing itself depending on engine configuration.

Started off with cluth sticking to floor.would have to pull clutch pedal back up with foot. truck would stick in gear. even with clutch fully depressed. seemed like spring had disconnected from clutch...

your clutch uses a hydraulic master and slave cylinder to disengage. It is likely that the slave has been leaking and the reservoir gone dry, thus allowing air into the system and reducing effectiveness. Check the clutch master cylinder reservoir (near the brake reservoir) fluid level. If low, also check the slave cylinder at the clutch for leakage. If leaking, replace the slave and bleed the system. If you need procedures or have more questions, please let us know.
