I have a 99 chevy silverad0 1500, when Im driving down the road the abs and brake lights come on, what does this mean and how do I fix it? mechanics can be expensive.

ASTRA ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS)
The Vauxhall Astra ABS warning light will illuminate yellow for a few seconds after the ignition has been started to self-check. The system will be operational when the light extinguishes. If the ABS light does not extinguish after starting the car or comes on whilst driving, this signifies a fault with the ABS system. Brakes will still operate although stability may be compromised on certain road surfaces. Take it to your mechanic to see if it needs to be serviced.

Brakes have nothing to do with all those codes

After the brake work, the shop can road test &
diagnose the codes for you.

If you get the codes you can google them & see
what they mean

-Possibly time to replace new one.

look under the truck at the ****** and check the wiring to the sensors if good may be a bad sensor,also check the wiring and connections to the abs wheel sensors [ located from frame to the hub behind the rotors ] the abs also acts as speed sensor if problem was with an abs sensor at the[ hub] wheel usually set the brake system to normal power brakes [if u hit brakes hard will lock up or skid wheels] with the abs light coming on if the speed sensor at ****** malfunction can and usually causes shift problems

it might be because of the tires rubbing against the fender, as you speed up the tires expand so the can rub against the sides of the fender.

or it might be a simple brake problem, u can try getting your brakes serviced

OK, if the ABS light is on one should scan it with an OBD-II ABS Brake Scan tool like Actron's ($99 to $116 on Amazon.com).

This will likely tell you which wheel has a bad speed sensor.

There could be an internal fluid leak on the master cylinder which needs to be addressed before it's safe to drive.

It would be nice to have the ABS portion of your braking system fixed at the same time.

You may be looking at a new ABS Brake Wheel Speed Sensor which is sometimes put into the hub permanently (requiring a new hub).

ABS is near the breaks when you take the tire off and the break pads you will see it it is very small part that is a sensor. mine went on my car when the guys were putting my breaks on it it really has not made to much of a difference in the breaks. they are costly so I just deal with the ABS light for now til summer

I would lean towards a wheel speed sensor.
