I have the same problem and cant seem to get it fixed. Hyundui UK say there is a fault on some and they are trying to rectfy once they have a programe to do this. Let us know if you get any ideas
Go to Auto Zone for a FREE scan of your vehicles computer. It sounds like the vehicle speed sensor control (VSS) for your trans is bad. They will find out exacxtly what the problem is if so. The VSS is linked to your computer for the cruise as well
check the brake switch at the top of the brake pedal and check the fuse for the cruise control give these websites a try www.autozone.com and www.alldatadiy.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your Baby SUV wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
http://www.knfilters.com/air_filter/hyundai_santa_fe.aspx Here is a link to the K&N filters for your Santa Fe, Just do a cross reference to the filter in your Santa Fe and pick up the right K&N filter. Good luck.
I assume this vehicle is equipped with an 'AUTOMATIC' transmission?... If so, then the shifting works electronically and is managed by the TCM (Transmission Control Module). The EPA (Environmentlal Protection Agency) and it's adherence with the CAA (Clean Air Act) has mandated manufacturers to develop the technology needed to reduce automobile emissions, and part of that is telling the transmission when to shift (up or down). Therefore, the TCM commands the trans to engage in 1,2,3,4 or when you put the shifter in R to engage reverse. Simple huh?
I thought this year of Santa Fe had a 100k Warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and get it fixed. Even if it's not under warranty, take it and get it fixed! This is dangerous to use with the cruise control!! Do not use the Cruise Control until you get this fixed. It sounds like a bad speedomoter sensor, and that is confusing the Cruise Control. Either your speedometer is going to stop working altogether, or your going to RAM someone from behind going at a DANGEROUS rate of speed. Take it and get it fixed, and do not use the Cruise Control until it is fixed.
I had the same problem with my 2003 santa fe. Do you have any brake lights out in back? Weird as it is, as soon as I fixed a burned out brake bulb, my cruise worked again. The only relation I can think of is that tapping the breaks causes cruise to turn off - so maybe a broken brake/tail light passes a singal to cruise control from some reason???
If you mean the "check engine" light (yellow) next to the "cruise" light if you have cruise control, you need to have the code scanned to find out what the erroe code is. From there, you will know how it can be fixed. I've been told that as long as the light doesn't flash, you can still drive the car. An auto parts store probably can read the code for you because they will want to sell you the replacement parts.
This works...the cruise is directly tied to the brake lights...when I replaced the brake and side light bulbs on my 2004 Santa Fe,,,the cruise started working with no other adjustments. It must complete a circuit or something.
