  • If you wear either the inside or outside of the tire which could mean your camber setting is off and alignment is needed.
  • If you have uneven tire wear in one direction (place hand over tire thread and run it forward direction, feeling for serrated sensation similar to a saw tooth) would relate to a worn shock absorber.
  • Consistent wear on the middle part of the tire means you are over inflating your tire. Adjust pressure with a cold tire and use a quality gauge.
  • Consistent wear at the inside and outside part of your thread means you are under inflating your tire.
  • Uneven cupping around the tire means a suspension component is worn. Check all rubber bushings for condition and ball joints for play.

I had the same issue on my Accent, two sets of tires shot. Finally had my strut bearings/plates replaced and it fixed the issue. Also noted that the steering wheel did not return to centre without assist. Now it returns right back and tire wear is no more!

What could be wrong with my tire if it bows in

Bows in at top or bottom? More than likely
you need your suspension aligned. The tire just follows the suspension. Misalignment can cause tire wear and handling problems. Front wheel drive cars need 4 wheel alignment to insure the back isn't steering the front. Other causes are shock/strut or control arm bushing wear or failure. Tie rod ends or idler arm wear can cause tire wear as well.
All parts should be tight and serviceable before alignment.

What kind of adjustments can be made to minimize outside edge tire wear on my 2001 Toyota Highlander V6 AWD?

If you are confident the wheel alignment is correct (first option) it may have excessive positive camber (lean in or out of the front wheel). This is often adjusted at the top of the strut tower (if fitted). A good front end mechanic would fix this problem in his sleep, you would not have to prompt him.

Rear tire wear

Sounds like your alignment is out, take it and get it balanced, If not that then something has broken in the rear end causing your tire to wear wrong

Left front tire wears out since the car was new

If it's choppy the tire is bouncing up and down. Either the tire is not balanced correctly or something is wrong with the shock or spring.
