Hello Darrell,

It is IMPORTANT to note that some situations
your OBD (on-board diagnostic) systems
are going to tell you ... the very best information...

From my personal experience OXYGEN SENSORS
merely report the news... So lets say an AUTOZONE
"sales clerk" does a FREE read on your car...

The car is tossing alarms on the OXYGEN SENSORS...

Save your money... Skip the next AUTOZONE
suggestion to buy NEW SENSORS...

The new SENSORS will only complain EXACTLY
as well as the old ones... (don't buy them).

I am going to take a WILD STAB here and suggest you
can take your car to an EXHAUST SHOP...

They will likely focus on BLOCKED EXHAUST
...

Mine was a CATALYTIC converter... but a MUFFLER
baffle will also cause popping, backfires... and check engine codes...

Worse... an EXPLOSION
(more likely minor... but who knows (urgent in my opinion)).

Check out your EXHAUST ELEMENT PRICES on
Amazon, eBay and/or Rockauto (for your location)...
BEFORE going into the EXHAUST SHOP...

This is a job that is not terribly EXPENSIVE if you
know enough to keep the PRICES COMPETITIVE.

ALL else fails... complete systems are available on-line
(just be sure you comply with ALL LAWS... )...!!

Hope I'm helping

SOURCE: oil leak

I've never seen a cracked block leak oil. Have problem verified so there is no "or" in your problem. As far as first time jobs, a head gasket on a mercedes is not where to start learning. If its a valve cover gasket, yes try it...otherwise have a quallified pro do the work.

My 1997 mx6 2.5l g2 has a blown head gasket (milky oil and loss of water.) I need to find whats causing the overheating. do you have any ideas as to whats causing this. thanks

you may have answered your own question .a blown head gasket will cause water to get in the oil therefore loss of water will cause it to overheat.driving under these conditions will cause more engine problems.

Cannot diagnose or run temp. Sealer for what i believe is head blown because car wont start it cranks but sputters and kills battery?

Sounds like head gasket again, but may be more serious this time. Overheating is not something to take lightly.

Pull plugs. crank. Water come out of cylinders? Head gasket. Possible cracked block or head this time, too. I'd be looking at a replacement engine.

Overheating coolant boiling out into reserve tank

you have a blown head gasket.. doesn't have to have coolant in the oil for a blown head gasket... if hoses are rock hard when running then you have exhaust leaking into the coolant via a blown head gasket...

Bad head gasket?

The A/c will drip water normally from the condensation drain hose, a small hose on the front of the firewall somewhere.

Are you having to continually put in radiator water? Has your engine oil got an appearance like dirty milk (water in it)? If not, and it is not overheating very quickly (a classic sign of a blown head gasket) then you can discount the head gasket as a cause.

Continual need for oil can also be due to a leak (oil on the outside of the engine and heavy drips on the ground), or burning of oil (much blue smoke from the tailpipe after idling for a bit).

You could get a compression test, which will point to a blown head gasket and/or a worn engine which is burning oil. A radiator leak down test will show up a leaky coolant system.

After misfiring for about a week my 2002 Qx4 infiniti engine started overheating. took it to a dealer who changed the radiator then reports that engine needs overhaul after water found now coming from the...

They changed the radiator and then told you need the engine overhauled? That tells me you don't want to deal with them! Any shop should have tested things out not just arbitraly start replacing parts. So unless your vehicle is still under warranty, then I would take it somewhere else to have them work on it.

Since I am not there to check out your vehicle, this is a WAG on what is going on with your engine.

Since you started off with misfiring - that could be a sign that your spark plugs are being fouled by oil or a few more things. But not usually an indication of a cracked block at least at that point.

But then you add the overheating into the equation - depending on how fast it overheats - right away (a couple of blocks driving) could mean either a blown head gasket or a cracked block but slowly could mean low coolant; radiator blockage, and so many more things.

If your engine was misfiring, you should have gotten an error code from your computer, which if acted on right away could have been a much cheaper fix. Now with what should like either a blown head gasket or maybe even a chrack block you are talking major work and dollars!

Stalled while driving, was over heating, leaking water under dash from heater core. and code came up multi cylinder misfire at diagnostic check. and crankshaft sensor.

The car has overheated and the top gasket has probably blown. You will have to check the oil and if it is milky there is water in and the top gasket is blown. The motor have to be reconditioned.

#7 cylinder misfire after overheating

Look for water in the oil, steam in exhaust , and oil and or bubbles in the coolant resevoir. Suspect a blown head gasket. May try just changing that one spark plug. Sometimes overheating can cause a extreme lean condition which can burn a plug.

I own a m reg 95 model civic. The car is overheating steam is coming out of the radiator. I tested the cooling fan and it does not seem to come on when the engine is hot. HELP!

I hate to say it but you might have blown a head gasket. Try this- in the morning/anytime, (cold engine) pop the hood and remove the radiator cap. Start the engine. If it bubbles/blows out antifreeze- yep, blown head gasket. Most people think you'll have water in your oil if you do have a blown head gasket. It can blow 2 ways. Exhaust gases into coolant passage (your case) or vise versa (hince the water/antifreeze in oil). Try that- lemme' know
