I have a 89 jeep Wrangler 4x4 4 cylinder 2.5 TBI carburetor standard transmission. The jeep will start and run fine for about 3 to 5 miles and then shut down. all the gauges still work but will not start. I let the jeep sit for an hour or so and then starts again. Alernator, starter, battery, spark plugs, coil, distributor rotor are all new. what else should I try?

i once had a problem exactly like this, but on a toyota celica and it wind up being the little filter boot at the bottom of the pump in the tank. The filter was detached and after a few miles or turns it would suck the filter at the orifice and starve out. After letting it sit the pressure would release and the sock would settle off the pump until enough times or circulation for it to suck the sock back on to the orifice and choke it out. Problem all over again, hope this helps.

My 89 Jeep YJ manual will not go in to reverse while running

Problem is likely either a worn shift fork or bad synchro (both inside the transmission) It's unlikely that you have a clutch problem otherwise the problem would be with first and reverse and shifting other gears would also be difficult.

89 wrangler get warm won't idle the takes along time to restart

These jeeps are carbeurated, with heavy emissions systems forced down the throats of Jeep. There are insane Vacuum systems that are too complex to deal with. What I did, (I have the 4.2L) was go out and purchase the Weber kit. I am not selling the part for them, I am actually a happy owner. Mine would die every time I came to a stop. I swapped out the junk and popped in the Weber. I have had no carb problems what so ever. I even eliminated the messy vacuum system! I payed about 200 bucks on Ebay, but from Weber direct they cost around 300. Good luck!
