To keep the hood of your 2001 Ford pickup open while changing the oil, you will need to use the hood prop rod. The hood prop rod is a long, slender rod that is located on the underside of the hood. To use the prop rod, follow these steps:
Open the hood of your pickup truck and locate the hood prop rod.
Look for a small, U-shaped bracket on the underside of the hood. This is where the prop rod fits.
Grasp the prop rod and gently slide it into the U-shaped bracket.
The prop rod should stay in place while you work on your vehicle. When you are finished, simply reverse the process to remove the prop rod and close the hood.
close hood and lift up on hood to see if it stays closed. if not, check inside car to see if latch(that you pull) is in the correct position. you can tell when hood is closed that there will be some tension on latch. check under hood, where hood closes on latch of hood, is tight and secure(no loose bolts) also check cable if broken. only those things can cause hood to pop open. if all visual inspections check out and still continues to open while driving then the latch (the mechanism that hold the hood down) is bad. vibrating while driving will cause it to open.
With the hood open have someone push the switch manually as if the hood is closed and see if the light goes out. If it does the switch is out of adjustment. Readjust the switch and you will be done. If it stays on when doing this you have to check the wiring for a pinched wire.
Try disconnecting the hood sensor. Now I can't remember if the sensor goes open when you open the hood or if it goes closed. Try by disconnecting it and see if the hood light goes out if not then jump the wires. The hood sensor is just a small pin under the hood. Looks like a door jam switch
i have the same problem theres many ways to fix this. i have tried all of them but the only soulution i foud was to go to a junkyard find the same car and take out the hood pop which looked brand new and repace it in my chevy lumina it fixed all my problems i can now get under the hood and fix other things that need to be fixed
Use hot water on the fabric surrounding the glass,,this will help loosen the fabric for the install,,,then use a hot air dryer to dry the surrounding area to tighten up.
