I have been told I need to replace the struts on my car at 45,000 miles. What would be the signs to tell me this is true? I was shown where they had leaked on the cylinder however the place they showed me where it leaked was dry not wet.

If the car ride rough.
If you get vibrations going down the road.
Note where you car sits level, push down on the corner, when you let up it should settle almost immeditately.

Struts and shocks stablize the car when driving. usually when they are bad if you hit a bump it will continue to bounce 5,6,7 times. also to check you can go to the suspected strut and bounce the car by pushing down on it do this several times and if the car keeps bouncing it is bad. it should only bounce once. and if stuts or shocks leak it would be wet on the cylinder where it came out

I would say do not authorize a vehicle service ever,
unless your standing in the repair or service bay next
to your vehicle & are shown a problem

Only after you understand what your told & believe having
seen the proof,do you then okey any work, if you chose to
do so

90,000 miles is not an uncommon mileage to replace the struts and shocks. If the shocks are leaking oil, or the car doesn't ride well, that is a good sign of needing replaced. You can also push down on the front or rearend, if it bounces up and down more than once, that would be another sign that it's time to replace them.

I have been told that I need to change the struts and shocks. No visible sign of leaking. Alignment seems fine and drives smooth. Am I missing something?

Parts on cars do not last forever and replacing struts and shocks usually are recommended about every 80,000 miles. They have the job of keeping the tires in contact with the road, and bad shocks can be a safety issue like poor braking performance.

The shocks and struts should be replaced every 80,000 miles unless there are sign's of fluid leaks. Monroe shocks and struts are one of the more popular Brand names out there. Good luck and shop around and remember, you get what you pay for so spending a few more dollars is worth 80,000 miles of use.

I am looking at a 2001 base 911. Can you tell me what the scheduled maintainance intervals are and what they entail. The car has 45,000 miles

To stay true to the Porsche value of ownership, you should take the car into a dealership as they electronically input data into their system and a pump is required to do oil changes since their is oil in lines traveling to the cooler at the front of the car. One mistake and you are out an engine.

I own a 2003 RX 300 and ws told that I needed new struts in the front. However, I only have 56,000 miles on the vehicle. Could this be true?

Here is how to tell if you have bad strut on ANY car. Go to the corner of the car with the suspected bad strut. Start pushing down on the car to get it moving up and down. Keep pushing to get it moving up and down pretty good and then push down one last time and stop. If the struts are good, your car will bounce up then down and then stop. If it keep moving more than that, the struts are bad.
