I have a 1995 dodge caravan with similar problems. It has trouble starting and you have to rev it just right when you turn the key to get it started. After a while it will die and not want to start back up. The fuel pump is new and it works. It has a new tps idle control motor plugs wires rotor cap and distributor hall effect sensor. The ignition coil's resistance is in spec and the altinator tested good at autozone. All the wires seem to be good. Had a trouble code for tps voltage and asr relay circuit short/open but they went away after the hall effect sensor was replaced now it seems to run worse. Please help.

SOURCE: Won't Start.

These trucks have a problem with the catalytic convertor blocking the exhaust causing a no start condition, the three things you need to start fuel, spark and air. Try disconnecting exhaust in front of cat.

SOURCE: 1996 Dodge Stratus stalls when starting

I had this problem with my 99 Durango and went to AutoBeef.com to discover this was a major problem with 98 & 99 Durangos. The fix was easy -- PCM "brain" was exchanged with a refurbished PCM "brain" from an online PCM company in Florida. You can google as I can't remember name of company. I called them and they said - Yep this is the fix -- the guys told me 3 screws all I had gone to several mechanics and dealers -- none could figure it out. I was so grateful that someone gave me the clue I needed.

SOURCE: 1995 dodge dakota 2wd 3.9 no spark to plugs,or coil,orfuelpump

First of all let's explain how the spark gets to the plugs. There is a crankshaft position sensor and a cam sensor. They are what determines when to fire the coils and injectors. The crank sensor is located on the passenger side on top of the bellhousing, the cam sensor is the pickup plate in the distributor. As the engin turns the send refernece pulses to the computer which grounds and ungrounds the ignition coil causing it to discharge and send voltager from the secondary coil wire to the center tower in the distributor cap. The rotor button recieves the voltage and distributes it to the 6 towers (1 for each cylinder) If you say you're getting spark from the rotor that tells me the primary side of the ignition system is working, and the secondary side is working into the distributor cap. I'd check for spark out of the plug wires at the plugs. Pull a wire and insert a #2 phillips screwdriver into it, hol the shaft of the screwdriver aprox 1/8"(no more) from the exaust manifold and observe the spark as someone turns over the engine. You should see a nice blue spark. If theres spark, spray a little gum cutter in the throttle body an crank it, if it fires you have a fuel problem. Install a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader valve on the fuel rail and observe it as you crank it. If theres no fuel pressure maks sure there's fuel in the tank, if so climb underneath and beat on the bottom of the tank with a rubber hammer, the pump may be going bad, sometimes you can jar them and make them run.

How do you use a multimeter to get trouble codes from a 1995 dodge caravan?

You dont. Touble codes are generated by reading the computer with and OBD or similar unit. many national auto partz stores carry the tool and will let you use them for free (i use kragen)

Multimeters read an electrical signals qualities (voltage, amps, etc)

Cranks over but wont start. tryed coil packs, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, but no start.

I had a similar problem, getting fuel, no spark... new coil pak, new sensors, still wouldnt start... no trouble codes. After about two months of racking my brains I finally just bit the bullet and purchased a refurbished ECM (PCM, ECC) from Autozone. Apparently there were two made for that year, had to re-order the right one. After I put it in and turned the key, there was a loud backfire and it started right up. Been running great ever since.

I am having trouble starting my 1997 Dodge Caravan. It keeps rolling over, but takes about two minutes to actually start.

try turning key on and off 2or 3 times then see if it starts right up. if it is there is a check valve in the fuel pump. it cant be replaced. you would have to replace the whole sending unit. costs about $600.00

Car clicks once when key is turned. battery checks fine.1995 dodge caravan 3.0 engine. car was fine before. No signs of problem.

Just disconnect the clamps at the battery teminals. Clean the battery post of dirt deposits, as well as the battery clamps. After the cleaning job, reconnect the clamps tightly back at the battery terminals.
Now you can test your car, by turning the key. It should
start unless the battery is discharged.

I replaced the altrenator and battery ona 1995 dodge caravan 3.3L V6 ENGINE and drove it 1 time now it wont start it makes a clicking sound wheb i turn the key over what could be the problem

It would be easy to suspect a starter/solenoid problem if not for the history you described. It would be quite a coincidence that this problem is happening after just changing the alternator and battery. I would suspect that the battery is not fully charged. It sounds like there is not enough voltage to operate the starter, but that will be easy enough to determine. I would charge the battery fully and if the vehicle starts, take it to get the alternator output checked at a parts store. If it still won't start and presents the same problem, then check the starter. If the battery is discharged, something has to have caused it. Just because an alternator is "new" doesn't necessarily mean that it's functional. Having the output checked will show how the alternator is performing. Just some thoughts for you to consider. Sorry for your trouble and best wishes.
