I am replaceing the coolant temp sensor in a 2001 toyota corolla ce. Did they change what sensor is suposed to be in the engine? On the o'reilly auto parts Part Number: 2-9374 is what came out of the engine. However the part seems to be discontinued. would Part Number: WT5051 be the correct sensor?

I think the engine is misfiring because of cam position sensor. These can be the possible causes :
- Faulty Intake Camshaft Position sensor
- Faulty Camshaft Position Solenoid Valve
- Engine mechanical condition - Valve timing off
- Intake Camshaft Position sensor harness is open or shorted
- Intake Camshaft Position sensor circuit poor electrical connection
engine is misfiring because of CMP sensor . Following can be possible causes :
- Faulty Intake Camshaft Position sensor
- Faulty Camshaft Position Solenoid Valve
- Engine mechanical condition - Valve timing off
- Intake Camshaft Position sensor harness is open or shorted
- Intake Camshaft Position sensor circuit poor electrical connection
P0125 TOYOTA - Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control
Possible causes- Low engine coolant level - Leaking or stuck open thermostat - Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor - Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness is open or shorted - Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical circuit poor connection
low on coolant - steam going across the sensor instead of coolant will give a false reading. bad temp gauge sensor or a bad gauge and also does it go straight to hot as soon as you start the car when it is cold like first thing in the morning or does it gradually start climbing and will it run hotter or cooler when ac is on or when stopped or going down the road. let me know and give more info hope this helped.
This is not a hard repair and you can do it your self with common tools in about 30 min. Inspect the wire leads to the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT), look for any damages like corrosion or a break in the wires. If the wires look good then replace the ECT and the thermostat, standard thermostat 80"C to 84"C (176"F to 186"F)
If there is an Auto Zone around your area or Parts Source, you can pick up the two items I mentioned and they can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done, Note: do not over tighten the bolt to the thermostat housing, since the manifold will be aluminum and you don't want to strip the manifold where the bolt goes in to. Good luck and keep em posted for any other questions.
if it is carburated you need to adjust the fast idel and the choke if it is fuel injected try checking the temp on the coolant temp sensor with a scanner the temp might be reading wrong if it is differant than ambiant temp in the morning change sensor
