Sounds like a bad surge protector. They typically go bad as the car ages but can be repaired easily. Radio shack has surge protectors for about $10. Cut the plug end off the wire and splice 2 of the wires to the positive and negative post of the battery. The third wire around a screw on the body of the car. Start the car, the on-board will now nullify any surge and stall it has stored in memory. Go for a ride and enjoy.

Sounds like your fan belt is glazed or loose. At higher speeds the belt slips over waterpump and doesn't drive pump fast enough to circulate coolant. That would be first thing I would check...
Other possibilities: waterpump, blocked heater core, fan clutch.

i dont know why it stalled out but i do know if in park or neutural it has a limitor on it that will not let the rpms go to high and it feels like its missing but this is normal to keep the engine from reaving to high.
