I have had vehicles where the speed sensor, MAF, MAP and throttle body did not let them shift as they should but the vehicle did shift. I have put several links above. Just to make sure if you have check engine light find out the code. Make sure you check transmission fluid with engine on and in park, emergency brake on at normal operating temperature. ( May sound bad but I have had to tell people above 30 about this and they said it was the first they heard of it). I will say the thing which stands out to me is check shifter cable. Check fuses. I did see a link which suggested brakes locked up but I assume the truck is not even trying to move.

2003 GMC Yukon AC Compressor and Accumulator Repair Part 1: AC ... HD Road Test Review - 2015 GMC Yukon Denali XL
Did u change distcap..may be corroded inside. There r two sensors gettn low voltage. Sounds like the othr is not heating properly too. A data stream run at a private shop is really helpful
Four digit codes are brand specific. For GM vehicles, code 1258 means the engine computer is in default mode for an engine overheat problem. Most performance options are limited to allow you to get the vehicle off the road or to a shop for repairs.
The engine could have been run hot, or the temp sensor may have failed.
Wait, shuts off but still idles? If you mean does not respond to throttle, this could be a "fly by wire" system which has a gas pedal sender unit prone to failure. "Lokar" makes a nice replacement unit reportedly better than stock.
my 2003 is now saying this .. my mechanic said the struts are going out maybe this is your cars problem too ? just a thought but i Would go in for a free service check on that ride before something major happens on the road while your driving it
The transmission is lubricated from the torque converter side. there is no lube being pumped if the engine is not running. Either disconnect the shafts or leave the engine idling during towing.
