Sounds like it might be a communication problem or bad cluster. I look up the self test for the cluster. You can hold buttons of the cluster and run it through a self test. I'll post it tomorrow.

Have you found the self test for the communication or bad cluster problem?

Sorry I've been busy at work. I'll look it up

With the key off, Push and hold the trip and reset buttons. Turn the key on. Keep holding the two buttons until CODE appears in the odometer window. After CODE disappears, write down any three digit numbers that appear and post them. After the codes it will say CHEC-0, then it will test the illumination lights. Then it will say CHEC-1 And will test the gauges. Speedo should go 0-20-55-75. Tach should be 0-1000-3000-6000. Gas should go empty-1/8-1/4-full. Temp should go Cold, low, high, hot. Then it will say CHEC-2. It will test all the odometer lights. Then CHEC-3. It will test the trans indicator lights. Let me know if something doesn't work right with this test, or what codes you get before 999.

My ABS light does come on and the gas gauge and temp lights do not work! If I hit the dash it would come back on ..but now that doesn't seem to be helping....

Same thing happened to mine. Only thing different was that everything stopped working on the control panel and the doors wouldn't lock automatically anymore. It would work off and on for years until all of it stopped working completely. Took it to mechanic who found the problem. Forgot what the code was. Anyway he took the dash apart and pulled out the panel and found something behind it that was cracked and soldered it. Now all works fine. :)

The failure or issue is a cracked PIN connection on the electrical terminal, seen it often. You'll need to remove the instrument cluster, dash pieces around it need to go first. Carefully remove the PIN connection from the back of the instrument cluster. CAREFULLY study the PIN connection on the cluster; I expect you'll find one with a slight crack in it (appears as afine black line) simply reheat tha solder on that pin until it just begins to flow, remove heat and let cool, reassemble the dash and you should be good to go. That should do it for you!

Need 2000 dodge grand caravan manuel. The dash instrument panel stopped working after a battery replacement. The light work. The tach and speedometer are pinned all the way to the right. ?

Digital Odometer??
Try this procedure and let me know if this worked for you. I have done this several dozen times and it helped reset the Instrument Cluster.
1. With the Key IN the Ignition and in the OFF (not On or Start)Position
2. Push in and hold-in the Trip Odometer Reset button.
3. When "sof 4.0" appears: release the Button and WAIT.
4. There maybe some "E" Codes that may appear.
5. Continue to let the System run its course. There should be a great light show on the dash along with the Tach and Speedometer needles dancing all over the place.
6. In about 30-seconds it will complete it's reset cycle.

Again let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions REPLY in the Comments Section of this Post.

2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Speedometer and Tach not working

sit in the drivers seat close the door. with the key off hold the trip odometer button in then while holding the button in turn the key on. if done correctly this will put the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster) into a self test. if the speedometer does not move like the rest of the gauges during this test the MIC must be replaced. if the speedometer does move it is likely your problem will be fixed, however, if the speedometer does move but it does not start working properly then further diagnostic will be needed.

Speedometer/tach stopped working

There are 2 sensors on the engine that sent a signal to the computor and speedometer and tach. When one of these goes bad it can make the speedometer and tach go all over the place and also just stop working. This can also cause all types of engine running problems because the information being sent to the PCM will be incorrect all so. The units are easy to replace once you find them, it seems that they are located in different areas of the engine with each year the vehicle was put out.
