Have you radiator clutch fan check out, sounds like its bad, air blows through radiator and a/c condenser while driving and no air blows through at stops, will cause a/c pressure to go up and not cool.
Testimonial: "Thank you. I will do so!!! =)"
Electric fan for a/c has quit ,, the reason it is blowing cold while moving is because air is passing through the condensor... not so much when stopped.
Radiator fans when checked are running but thbey dont seem to be fast as I have noticed in past summers, however car is running at normal temps, I just have noticed fans do not go all the way on (FAST LOUD) as I have heard in the past, might this be a problem? I have visually checked fuses look ok,when I engage the ac it goes on and goes off, but i dont notice that power drain it normally did when you engae it, and the radiator fans dont go faster like they used to? Any ideas??
check the fan relays. Some of these control the fans fast and slow stages.

Also if the fans are working properly the condenser may become clogged with bugs and such wich will cause same effect as the fan issue as well especially if u have lots of bugs in your area seen that alot
I have same issue. I took to Chevy dealer they could not find problem (whats new) then I took to trusted mechanic.
They measured voltage at compressor and found out when idle the voltage dips below manufacturer specs, then when RPMS go up it gets more juice so the compressor then starts to work properly.
Chevy claims its made that way to extend compressor life.
Sounds like compressor is bad.
Your equinox does not have a fan clutch. Fans are electric.
Possible that the idle speed is not up high enough when air is on. car should idle higher when air runs. solenoid usually controls this speed. it could be bad.
SOURCE: AC blows hot air when i stop at an intersection or slow down.
Try cleaning the condenser located in front of the radiator , with either a garden hose or compressed air. If this doesn't cure the problem then have your a/c system checked for leaks and recharged.
