Eml light warning is on and the 2006 Mini Cooper S lost power, the car also had a misfire (P0303) . I replaced the spark plugs, wires and coil pack. Problem still here,

misfires are also caused by low fuel pressure injector electronics faults and faulty injector tips . Replacing plugs is half the fix

Why does my traction control and eml light come on Bmw e46 ?

I'm sorry Roger but you are going to have to get it to someone with access to the plug in diagnostic unit for Beemers.
there seem to be several things going on but when it coughs up the diagnostic info you may go straight to it?

Hi I have 2000 BMW 528i, It all started with Brake oil, I put wrong one Dot3 and realize it is DOT 4 for BMW and bleaded out what ever was there and put New Brake oil. removed air from all 4 sections on...

Eml is the throttle fault light for the electronic throttle control you will need to get the fault codes read to find out which end the problem or problems are at on the throttle control
Asc is the traction control and when wheel spin is detected it shuts the butterfly on the one throttle body until the wheel spin is reduced get the actuator in the wheel well checked for damage to the wiring to the throttle body

WHAT DOES EML LIGHT MEAN ON THE DASH OF MY 2003 BMW 325I?

The "EML" warning light in a BMW indicates a problem with the "drive by wire" throttle control system."

"EML" is an acronym for "Elektronische Motorleistungsregelung". Loosely translated from the original German for the BMW owner means Electrionic Engine Power Control.

"EML" is BMW's system name for electronic throttle management. The "EML" system, in it's most basic sense consists of an accelerator pedal (with an electronic position sensor), a computer module (usu. integrated with the main engine computer), and an EDK (Elektronische Drosselklappe or Electronic throttle valve). The EDK is also known as a "drive by wire" throttle. "EDK" throttles use a computer controlled stepper motor rather than a purely mechanical linkage (usu. metal cable attached directly to the accelerator pedal) to control the opening and closing of the throttle plate.

"Drive by wire" throttles are very common on modern vehicles starting in the late nineties up through the present day. "Drive by wire" technology enables very precise throttle control to improve drivability and vehicle emissions, as well as many convenience features like electronic cruise control, traction control & stability control.

BMW first implemented "drive by wire" in very limited quantities on the most expensive & sophistocated BMW models starting in 1988.

The latest generation of advanced vehicle features to take advandage of "drive by wire" technology are radar guided cruise control, accident avoidance control, autonomous-driving, and autonomous-parking systems.

TRACTION CONTROL.

that is what it is desgined to do - reduce acceleration and apply the brakes intermittently when the wheels spin. You have a switch you cn push to disable it. You need to disable each time you start car. See owner manual.

06-10: Traction Control 1996 Contour, Mystique Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Traction Control System The optional traction control system is designed to control wheel spin when accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces. Traction control system is available only with anti-lock brakes. The traction control system includes the following components:
  • Hydraulic control unit.
  • Throttle control actuator (9N825).
  • Traction control switch.
  • Traction control warning indicator.
  • Front brake anti-lock sensor (2C204).
  • Rear brake anti-lock sensor (2C190).
The traction control system operates as follows:
  • System functions by transferring torque from the spinning wheel to the wheel with the most traction.
  • This is achieved by applying the brake at the spinning wheel through the hydraulic control unit or reducing the throttle opening.
  • Traction control braking and throttle control occur at vehicle speeds up to 50 km/h (30 mph).
  • At vehicle speeds above 50 km/h (30 mph), only throttle limiting control is used.
  • If speed control is operating when traction control system engages the traction control system will disengage speed control through the use of a speed control relay. This action is the same as applying the brake pedal with speed control engaged.
1996 contour
Traction Control Switch The traction control switch is located on the instrument panel, left of the steering column.
