I drive a 1999 Ford Taurus. My battery light came on so i replaced the battery promply the next morning. After which I followed the instructions in the manual about reseting the idle settings. It drove fine during the day but the battery light faded on and off with the accerlation of the car. On my way home I had the lights radio and wipers on and the battery light was on the whole time and the car actually stalled and wouldn't turn over. Only after getting a jump I was able to drive it home where it stalled out again and it would not turn over.

there are dozens of possibilities, and they are impossible to narrow down without a scan tool, and to read the code that the transmission has stored, the most common problem in this cars transmission, is the temperature sensor, which is part of the internal wiring harness, expect about $350 unless you are the original owner, if you bought it new, you may be able to push it through warranty.

this is all to common a problem with the wipers, it is caused by the combination wiper switch, it makes connection all by itself, Ford has issued a TSB (tenhnical service bulliten) on this problem, replace the switch.

there is also a device called a transponder, it is AROUND the ignition switch and this is the part that reads your key code. thim might be your problem, hope this helps and good luck- P.S. i hope you didn't end up paying for the "repairs" that the mechanics made as they oviously havn't fixed the problem and probably were not correctly diagnosed.
