Fuel Pump Removal & Installation To Remove:
WARNING
The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is off. This pressure must be released before servicing the fuel pump module.

  1. Drain fuel tank and remove the tank.
  2. Thoroughly wash and clean area around pump module to prevent contaminants from entering tank.
  3. The plastic fuel pump module locknut is threaded onto fuel tank. Install special tool #6856 to fuel pump module locknut and remove locknut. The fuel pump module will spring up when locknut is removed.
  4. Remove the module from fuel tank.
To Install:
CAUTION
Whenever the fuel pump module is serviced, the module gasket must be replaced.
  1. Thoroughly clean locknut threads and mating fuel tank threads. Use a solution of soap and water. Do not use carburetor cleaner to clean threads.
  2. Using new gasket, position fuel pump module into opening in fuel tank.
  3. Apply clean water to locknut threads.
  4. Position locknut over top of fuel pump module.
  5. Rotate module until arrow is pointed toward front of vehicle (12 o'clock position). This step must be done to prevent float/float rod assembly from contacting sides of fuel tank.
  6. Install special tool #6856 to the locknut.
  7. Tighten the locknut to 55 ft-lb (74 Nm).
  8. Rotate fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator until its fitting is pointed to 10 o'clock position.
  9. Install the fuel tank.

Every time that I get gas in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler I have problems. Several times the gas pump has not shut off when the tank is full resulting in gas pouring out. Usually the opposite happens, the gas...

Inspect and make sure the vent line from the tank to the filler neck is clear and not kinked and the cannister is not plugged. If both are ok (and usually are) the problem is caused by a sticking control valve on the top of the fuel tank. Unfortunately, the valve is molded into the tank and therefore only serviced with the fuel tank assembly so the tank will have to be replaced.

97 Jeep Wrangler sport- Cranks, will not

Fuel flow. Either simply, a blocked fuel line (debris / filter / fouled gas) or an electronic issue. Ever let this Jeep run bone dry on gas? Hopefully not, as doing so can draw a lot of crud into your fuel lines from the bottom of the tank. Electronically, if part of the Jeep "brain" has gone bad, there may not be any fuel being routed to the engine. This most likely needs a Jeep mechanic to repair.

2001 jeep wrangler sport ,fog lights on, switch off

I have a simular problem. Only mine does not some on. I tried to replace the turn signal switch assembly with a used one. The replacement work ok on the fog lights but the rest was bad. As near as I can figure it, the switch assemble is not well made and had many ways to go bad. Either replace the whole assemble or wire in a bipass switch. I am going to go with a bipass switch. I don't trust the new jeep products.

3rd brake light won't work. Replace bulb...nothing

The contacts for the third brake light are two silver discs, about the size of a dime. They are located on the inside of the tailgate, hinge side. Make sure your carpet or any other loose item has not covered one or both contacts. Make sure they are fairly clean and make good contact.
