Ignition coil does the tach wire have to be hooked up from the coil to the distributer.there is a white wire hanging off my coil.the truck is missfiring and when i move the clip around it runs better.i think there was a tachometer in the truck at one time and they took it out,leaving the tach wire disconnect.does it have to be connected 4 the truck to run better. 1990 chevy fullsize 1500 2wd 4.3 v6.

The tach wire should be removed completely once the tach is removed.
There is absolutely no need for a tach wire between the distributor and coil. There is normally a tach plug, and it can be either on the coil, distributer, or the ECU, but it would never run between any of these components.

Who manufactured the tach? Maybe they have a web site and instructions? Did you tach come with instructions?

I looked at autometer instructions for your vehicle, have to use an adapter, it ties into the power wire for your coil pack. The adapter costs about 97 bucks, not including tax.

Different tach manufacturers may have different hook-ups?

I am hooking up a remote start on a 99 Chevy Astro & can not find a tach wire.

Hey I'm not an expert at remote starts I've only hooked up one in my life I have two of them one in my Durango & one in my Dakota Dakota was installed by best buy & Durango was installed by pc richards I'm not positive but I think tach wires are the same color on all remote starts and mine are purple the tach wire on the Durango is hooked to the #3 fuel injector wires & the Dakota wire is hooked to the coil but the tach wire is purple look back at installation directions you might have a defective remote start unit remember I said I'm not an expert I'm just going. By what I have I really hope this helped you oh by the way the van has an automatic tranny right? Good luck

According to info found online, the wiring for a 1995 F series tach gauge is as follows;

Tach..........Tan/Yellow wire...........at coil connection.

Your truck does have a coil that feeds the distributor, correct?

tach hook up for chevy with hei distribitor is 1)white wire ; 12volt source 2)red wire -12 volt ignition switch (+) 3)black wire -battery ground (-) green wire ; to tach terminal on dist. / if it not hei with points just put green wire to neg. (-) side of coil

first you need to find the coil wire going into the coil on the + side and splice the white tach wire to that and the rest you can probly figure out ground/positive/night light dimmer/

That should be the white wire rom the dist to coil. eather way you will not hurt the tach if you were to get it wrong. There are only two wires. I would look at the distributor and on the top of the cap there it writing and it will say tach an you can plug it directli into that.

Ignition module wiring on 85 f150

The red wire goes to constant hot and the white wire is on the key on/off. The green is a tach signal and the black is ground.
