SOURCE: We just changed the oil

If it is the same as the 2001 Alero, open the fuse panel on driver side. Turn key in the ignition to ON.
Hold Tire/Oil reset button in until beeping and the light turns off. Then it is all set...

Should be the same for the 2004...

Hope this helps.

if it truly set code for "loose fuel cap" or po455 large leak, then tightening the cap and driving a couple days should reset on its own. if not then get it checked for free at autozone and report back with code # and can help from there. they'll ck for free but are not allowed to reset.

What light oil change or low oil?
tip

Reset oil change light on 2004 Oldsmobile Alero or Bravada w/o (DIC) Driver...

I see alot of people cant figure out how to reset there oil change light on a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero/ Bravade w/o (DIC) driver information center. To do this follow the steps below.
Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off. Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds. The reset is complete when you hear the chimes and the “CHANGE OIL” light goes out. If the light stays on and no chime is heard, you will need to repeat the reset procedure. Turn the key to OFF. If the “CHANGE ENGINE OIL” message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
and its as easy as that and now you can change your oil on your own and not need a dealership to reset it for you.

I want to reset the change oil light on 2004 olds alero

You need an OBII scanner to reset service lights. You can buy one from about $60 and up... OR you can go to an Autozone, Advance or any good auto parts store and they'll do it FREE

Where is oil light reset button? Light stays on regardless of condition of oil.

  1. Turn the ignition to "ON", with the engine off.
  2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the "CHANGE OIL" lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
  3. Turn the key to "OFF".
  4. If the "CHANGE OIL" lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
