My 2012 gmc terrain has done this twice. Remote started to cool, got in car turned and turned key, out foot in bread to put from park to drive and it jerked forward and killed when I hit the gas. Moved about 2 inches. Then the next day (yesterday) I got in turned key and put foot on break to put from park to drive and put foot on has petal slowly and it jerked. Let off the gas and hit the gas again and it was fine. We are about to leave for a 5 hour trip. Is it safe? What's wrong? Will I get a check engine light? Worst case what happens? Thanks
It could be flooded with fuel. You could try pulling the fuel pump relay and cranking the engine to clear it out. A mechanic would check for spark at the plugs and also see if the plugs are fuel fouled. Usually if the oil pressure light comes on the engine will eventually die because the fuel pump stops getting voltage.
I would guess your oil pump is going out causing it to loose oil pressure. If you continue to drive your car in this condition it will most likely ruin the engine. If it is not your oil pump it is something else causing you to loose oil pressure and I would have it looked at soon.
Of course you realize that the pressure fluctuates according to your acceleration right? If it's going lower than it normally did than there can be a compression problem with the engine or possibly the oil pump is putting out a low output.
The best solution is to do a complete tune up with new spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve and oil change.. If this still happen I would get some fuel injector cleaner, or use marvel mystery oil in both your oil(crankcase) and gas tank. You can get mystery oil at walmart..its in a red bottle with black label.
MY 2002 RAINIER DOES THE SAME THING I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY. I NEED TO CLEAN IT OR REPLACE IT. I HAVE THE 4.2 AND YOU CAN GET ONE FOR $200 PLUS SHIPPING. THE THROTTLE BODY STARVES THE CAR FOR AIR CAUSING THE IDLE, AND SHUT DOWN PROBLEMS. I AM GOING TO TRY IT THIS WEEKEND.
