Make sure the shifter is ALL THE WAY in the park position. A sensor must be activated to assure the vehicle is in park or neutral before the car can be started. Normally if you can't even turn the key to the accessories position, you should hold the steering wheel all the way to the right as hard as you can while trying to move the key and then if that doesn't work hold the steering wheel all the way to the left as hard as you can while trying to move the key. If none of that works you are going to have to get a mechanic to take a look. Also make sure you have the right key and make sure the key looks like it is not "bent" or damaged.

I cant turn the ignition or move the steering wheel on my 2003 nissan altima. When I insert the key I get the usual sound but I cant turn the key at all, and the steering wheel seems like its stuck.

i think there is a ignition problem , might try replacing it , of course you cant turn the steering if the key wont turn , its a theft prevention device.

Ignition locked

keys & locks are subject to wear, especially if you have a large or heavy key-ring.do you have a spare key to try?the tip[pointy end] of the key is what releases the lock.have a new key made.if that doesn't work, call lock smiths for price to replace lock cylinder.

Steering wheel locked in place, key will not turn...

Very likely the steering thrust stored in the tires attempting to turn back is forcing excessive tension against the steering lock.

Try (very hard) to turn the steering wheel either direction while turning the key gently.

If that solves it you can avoid this by letting go of the steering after stopping to park, turn off the ignition slowly (engine off, pause, then key out). This will ensure that the steering wheel comes to rest prior to locking the column.

Nissan xterra 2003 car noisy problem

If it's the water pump there should be water leaking, if it's the steering pump the noise  would change as you turn the steering wheel left to right. If it's constant, it could be just old belt and bad idler and tension pully. Start buy praying a little water to the belt while the engine is running and if the noise goes away, the belt is in time to be chaged. If the noise is still there, then most likly it's the ilder bering or tension bearing. Good luck

1998 nissan altima gxe -ignition problem

Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again

2001 xterra key won't turn

First have her turn the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key. Then if that does not work try moving the shifter as much as she can with the brake pedal depressed. If for some reason that does not work she will have to get it to a dealer. Good luck, dont forget to rate.
