You need three things for an internal combustion engine to work, air, fuel and fire.
Is it getting all the above? Is there fire getting to the plugs? Is there fuel getting to the cylinders? Is it getting air?
If the answer is yes to all the above, then it should turn over and fire.
Possible causes for it not starting... Not getting air - Check air filter, or just take it out. Not getting fuel - Check your fuel pump, check your fuel filter, check your gas tank. Not getting spark- Check wires, check plugs, replace as necessary.
If all the above is GO, then I'd have someone check the timing.

1999 jeep cherokee sport cranks wont crank

Most likely is intermittent in starter solenoid relay

Next most likely is key switch start connection intermittent. a tester will have to be used to find where the power is being lost from the start terminal of ignition switch to starter solenoid pilot connection to the main starter output power from solenoid to starter main contactor.

When it does not crank, check to see if voltage is getting to the starter. If it is, hit the starter. If it starts , replace it.

I have replaced the battery and my jeep still will not start. Do I need to do something else

When you say it doesnt start what do you mean? does the engine crank over but wont start, or is it that when you turn the key nothing happens,i will assume it does nothing when the key is turned just due to the fact you replaced the battery, the next step is to check for power at the starter, have someone turn the key to start and hold it there while you check for power at the small connection at the starter, the starter has two connections, one has power at all times and the other a small connection gets power when the key is in the crank (start) position, if theres power at the starter then you have a bad starter, if theres no power then you may have a bad key chip or a bad neutral safty swith, now if the truck is spinning over but not starting then the first common thing i would check is for fuel preasure at the injector rail, good luck hope this helps.

1996 Jeep Cherokee wont start

Have you tried to jump power directly on the starter? make the BIG power cable touch the small one on the starter with it still in the engine.(power touching the starter solenoid) use a LONG screwdriver to make them touch. you will not get shocked just make sure you only touch those 2. it will spark a bit but just hold it on there. if your starter clicks and does nothing then you have a bad starter. if it works then you have other problems. If it starts to smoke stop and make sure your engine is not frozen by turning the crankshaft with a large ratchet.

make sure voltage flows WHEN cranking also. check voltage at the starter while cranking. make sure it maintains 12 volts. or very close to it. nothing below 10.8 volts. check for corrosion on battey cables if voltage drops below that. that shows you have a curremt problem. also check grounds. or make new ones you know are good.

Good luck

Jeep won't start has power to lights but won't turn over

The starter is a good possibility. Try tapping the starter with a small hammer while trying to start it. Sometimes the brushes in the starter get dirty and tapping it will jar them loose. If the jeep starts then replace the starter. If the jeep does not start, take a test light and see if you are getting voltage to the big nut on the starter while trying to start it. If it's getting 12 volts and the jeep does not start, then replace the starter.
