While parked, I heard a chirping sound coming from the car. The remote key system would not work. After manually unlocking the car, with key in ignition, car would not start. There is no power to start the car yet the dash lights come on. What is wrong?

It sounds like there is a short in your alarm system which is draining the battery while the car is sitting. Try jump starting the car, then pull the fuse which goes to the alarm system. If the vehicle takes a jump and starts, and you can't locate the fuse right away, disconnect the positive battery terminal when you let your car sit. When the car is running the alternator will keep the battery charged.

My 2003 Navigator doors will only unlock with the key on

Sounds like a vehicle security module problem , but , without doing some testing that would be just a guess .
Checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes first ,then checking power an grounds to the module . Viewing wiring diagrams an testing electrical circuits for the locks too see if anything is wrong , missing power or grounds etc... Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? How to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter to test electrical circuits ? Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size. Under system click on body & accessories ,then under subsystem click on power locks . Click the search button then the blue link . If not familiar with automotive electronics your best bet mite be to take it to a qualified repair shop.

Power Lock
The power lock/unlock feature requests all of the vehicle doors, including the liftgate, be locked or unlocked upon a customer request from any interior door lock switch in the vehicle. The power door locking system functions independently of ignition status or vehicle speed. When the vehicle security module receives an unlock/lock command from any door lock control switch, the vehicle security module will activate relays internal to the module to supply the correct power and grounds for the door lock actuators.

Power Unlock Inhibit
NOTE: This feature is not enabled when the vehicle is delivered to the customer. If the customer requests this feature the module can be configured to enable this feature.
With the key in OFF, 20 seconds after electrically locked (remote transmitter, keypad, door lock control switch locked with door ajar) and all doors are closed, the door unlock switch will be inhibited if this feature is enabled. (The lock function will still operate.)
Deactivating/Activating Power Door Unlock Switch Inhibit
NOTE: The power door unlock switch inhibit feature needs to be enabled to perform this procedure.
This is customer configurable. Steps one through three must be completed within 30 seconds.
  1. Turn the key to ON, then press UNLOCK three times.
  1. Turn the key to OFF, then press UNLOCK three times.
  1. Turn the key to ON, within five seconds press LOCK two times.
The user should receive two horn chirps to indicate the system has been disabled or two chirps followed by a horn honk to indicate the system has been enabled.
Pressing LOCK two times again will toggle the door lock control switch inhibit feature state.
Turn the key to OFF to exit programming mode.
This feature can also be enabled/disabled using a diagnostic tool.
Auto-lock Enable/Disable - Using the Ignition Switch
Another way to turn the auto-lock feature off/on is by following this series of steps:
  1. Close all doors.
  1. Confirm that the key is in the OFF position.
  1. Turn the key from OFF to ON.
  1. NOTE: Steps 4 through 8 must be carried out within 30 seconds. Press UNLOCK three times.
  1. Turn the key from ON to OFF.
  1. Press UNLOCK three times.
  1. Turn the key from OFF to ON.
  1. Verify that the horn chirps. This indicates the enable/disable mode and now is ready to accept program changes.
  1. Press UNLOCK once to command the vehicle security module to toggle the auto-lock/relock feature OFF.
  1. Press LOCK once to enter the command.
  1. Verify that the horn chirps one time. There should only be one chirp indicating that the auto-lock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard followed by a longer sound of the horn, the auto-lock/relock feature has just been enabled. Return to Step 10.
  1. Turn the key to the OFF position to exit the enable/disable mode.
  1. Exit the vehicle and verify that the horn chirps once to indicate that a feature has been changed and that auto-lock/relock has been disabled.

Where is the Ford 2010 Ford Explorer "Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module" located

The RKE is controlled by the SJB - smart junction box ! Fords BCM - body control module .
Principles of Operation
Power Locks
The SJB controls the power lock/unlock feature of all of the vehicle doors, including the liftgate, to lock or unlock based on the input received from the door lock control switch, the keyless entry keypad or the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter. Power locking and unlocking of the doors function independently of the key position, vehicle speed or transmission position. The smart junction box (SJB) activates internal relays to supply the correct voltage and grounds for the door lock actuators.

Your best bet would be to take to ford dealer or some other qualified repair shop .
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Unlock
The RKE transmitter feature provides lock/unlock functions independently of key position, vehicle speed, or transmission position. The RKE transmitter feature provides a 2-step process for unlocking the doors. Upon receipt of the first request for unlocking the doors, the RKE control feature requests the SJB to unlock the driver door only. If another unlock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE transmitter feature requests the SJB to unlock all the doors. This feature can be changed to global unlock, so that all the doors unlock on the first press of the unlock button. To toggle between the 2-step unlock and the global unlock press the lock and the unlock button on the RKE transmitter at the same time and hold the buttons for 4 seconds. The turn signal lamps flash to confirm that the feature has been toggled.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Lock
The RKE transmitter feature requests that all the doors be locked when the lock button is pressed. On any press of the lock button with all doors closed, the SJB provides 1 flash of the parking lamps. If any door is ajar, no flash occurs. As soon as the last door is closed, the SJB provides the flash of the parking lamps. If 2 presses of the lock button are received within 3 seconds, the horn chirps once, and the parking lamps flash twice to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door is ajar when the second lock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE transmitter feature requests the SJB chirp the horn twice without flashing the parking lamps to indicate it locked all the doors but 1 or more doors are ajar. When the key is in the ON or START position, the parking lamp flashes and horn chirp confirmations do not occur.

All locks not working ?????
  • The doors do not lock/unlock using the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter
  • RKE transmitter battery
  • RKE transmitter
  • RKE transmitter programming
  • Aftermarket system
  • SJB
  • Go To Pinpoint Test H .

2011 Corolla has started making very random chirping noise, car is off, key out of ignition. Unaware of any dash lights coming on, never catch it happening. Please help, neighbors not impressed.

Instinct says there is a problem with the Body Control Module; however, testing it would render the vehicle useless until it is reinstalled. I would suggest setting up a surveillance system to see if there could be a stray cat triggering the alarm system(which is controlled by the BCM). No reports of the chirping occurring while at work/school?

Our remote key will not function properly we are unable to turn off the alarm so every time we want to drive the car the alarm sounds for 30 seconds and everyone around thinks we are stealing our car help

Verify good battery in remote. Then try this...works on some cars. Standing close to car, press both "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" buttons at the same time. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds and horn should chirp and door locks will cycle indicating the system will now recognize the remote. If not, check owners manual if you have it. Otherwise, a trip to a VW dealer is in your future.

check the battery in key, check wiring harness to relays behind dash. I think you have a bad relay or connection or button on your key is sticking. Worst case is having shop diagnose system so you can repair.

I bought a new Keyless remote for a 2007 Forester from a Subaru Dealer to replace an original one that went bad after 2 years. I have followed the directions in the owner's manual to program it, but can't...

IMPREZA: 2005, 2006, 2007 and
FORESTER: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
Check for Immobilizer key on Forester XT models only.
information is always subject to change and correction imp05keylessremote1.jpg
new remote for 2005 Imprezas.
This is not the same remote as the 05 Legacy/Outback remote which also has truck/gate release on the front and a red panic button on the back.
Lock: press Lock button for 2 seconds or so to lock car, and arm optional security system. The car with chirp once and turn signals flash for locked, 5 short chirps and signal flashes if any door is not fully closed. The dome light goes on for 15 seconds and ignition key ring (if present) will light for 30 seconds when unlocked.
Unlock: press unlock one time for driver's door, press again within 5 seconds to unlock all doors inkling rear gate (wagon). The system does not open the trunk.
Panic mode: press and hold lock button for approx. 3-4 seconds to activate Panic mode. I panic model the horn honks and turn signals flash until either the lock or unlock button is pushed again.
Finder mode: Press lock button 3 times within 5 seconds to activate Vehicle Finder mode. The horn will honk once and the turn signals will flash 3 times
Distance: works within approx. 30 feet depending on battery strength, nearby concrete walls and etc.
Audible Chirp On-Off: the system will chirp when locked or unlocked. To turn OFF the chirps, unlock the door and then push both lock and unlock buttons at the exact same time for 2+ seconds. There will be 2 chirps indicating the the audible is off. To turn the chirp back on, repeat the process and the system will chirp one time when it is back on.
Battery: as the battery ages it will only work as you get closer to the car. When a battery is replaced, the transmitter must be re-synchronized with the Keyless control unit. To synchronize, press the lock or unlock button 6 times.
Programming: 4 codes may be programmed.
Sit in driver's seat and unlock all doors. Open and close the driver's door
Turn the ignition key from LOCK to ON position 10 times within 15 seconds. Be sure to stop at both lock and on. The horn will HONK once to indicate transmitter programming mode is activated. Leave key in LOCK position and don't remove it from ignition.
You now have 45 seconds to complete the programming as below.
Open and close driver's door again.
Push either lock or unlock button on the remote you want to program. The horn will honk 2 times when successful.
To continue and program other remotes at the same time: open and close the driver's door and push lock or unlock on the remote. The driver's door must be opened and closed between each remote you want to program.
Done programming? remove the key from the ignition and the horn will honk 3 times.
DELETE old codes? Reprogram 4 times, it will overwrite old codes.
Alarm Security System: optional on all models. When locked there is one chirp (can be turned off, see above), the turn signals will flash and the red 'security' light will start to flash once every 2 seconds except for STi which flashes twice every 2 seconds.
There will be 5 chirps if a door, hood, and trunk or gate is not fully closed
You can also arm the system by using the power lock button on the driver or passenger door as you get out of the car and then closing the door behind you.
Disarm the system: push unlock for 2 seconds
Lost remote, alarm activated? When you can't use a remote to turn off the system: open the door with a key or try to start the car and the horn will start to honk. Turn the key on-off 3 times within 5 seconds and the alarm will go off and you can start the car. It's simple!
VALET mode: To set valet mode or just to disable the security alarm system: 1. unlock all doors 2. physically open the driver's door 3. hold the UNLOCK button on remote for 2+ seconds. The red 'security' light will then flash 2 times a second until the car is turned on.
System has been Tripped (except for STi): if you unlock the door with the remote and it chirps the signal light flash 4 times, the system has been triggered;
Identification mode: To find out what happened and why the system was triggered:
Open and drivers door, leave it open. Turn ignition key from LOCK to ON 2 times and then leave in LOCK position.
Tripped code: 1 security light flash: a door has been opened, 3 flashes when the impact sensor was triggered, 4 flashes when the ignition was messed with or battery disconnected
