There is a bleeder valve in the front of the motor. I used a 7MM wrench and did bleed the air out. I'm thinking perhaps replacing the canister/reservoir and thermostat with dealer parts. A friend did a block test? blue liquid that turns yellow when there is a head gasket leak. It stayed blue. This problem is so frustrating....been dealing with it since last October.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My Jeep is overheating and when I shut it off the reservoir is bubbling a lot like coolant not going anywhere. What would that mean?

If your Jeep is overheating and the coolant reservoir is bubbling, it could indicate that there is an issue with the cooling system. Here are a few possible causes:
  1. The radiator cap is faulty: The radiator cap is responsible for maintaining the proper pressure in the cooling system. If it is not functioning properly, it could cause the coolant to boil and create bubbles in the reservoir.
  2. The water pump is not working: The water pump circulates the coolant throughout the engine. If it is not working properly, the coolant may not be circulating as it should, which could cause the engine to overheat.
  3. The thermostat is stuck: The thermostat is responsible for regulating the flow of coolant into the engine. If it is stuck in the closed position, it could restrict the flow of coolant and cause the engine to overheat.
  4. There is a leak in the cooling system: If there is a leak in the cooling system, the coolant level in the reservoir may be low, which could cause the engine to overheat.
It is important to address any issues with the cooling system as soon as possible, as an overheating engine can cause serious damage. You may want to take your Jeep to a mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.

Water bubbling out overflow

Did you bleed the air out of the cooling system?? This is a must or it will overheat.

I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero with the 2.4 liter engine. I had a leaking water pump so I replaced it. While I was at it I replaced the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, cam sprockets, tensioner,...

Check the radiator for any blockage. After the engine is warmed up and coolant is circulating good, the lower radiator hose should be pretty warm, just not quite as hot as the upper hose. If it feels cold, the radiator may have some blockage.
Sounds like you have covered everything else. Might want to double check for trapped air. Are you certain the temperature gauge is correct?

2001 olds silhouette engine overheats

Time for Intake Gaskets and possibly head gaskets, very common problem with these, the intake gaskets go bad and the coolant actually burns in the cylinder and of course the cylinder pumps air into the coolant system because of intake gaskets being bad. :-(

Heater is blowing cold air in my 2001 alero

Check the coolant level in the rad and the reservoir. If low check for stains at either end of the intake manifold gasket, they are extremely notorious for leaking, and air in the cooling system is the greatest cause for no heat. They are also bad for head gaskets leaking. Top up the coolant and re-try. Check for leaks, if coolant leaks while its running at the passenger side, it will be a water pump leaking. If coolant level is good at both then the thermostat is the most likely culprit

2001 Olds Alero suddenly quits sending heat then sometimes it does and sometimes it overheats. Is this a water pump or a thermostat. Help. Mallory M

Check the cooolant level, sound like theres a leak somewhere, water pump, hoses, t-stat bad, rad cracked, heater core leaking, bad rad cap, cooling fans not working, you need to get it looked at really soon, before you get it to hot and blow a head gasket.

Thermostat bad?

in order to replace the thermostat u either have to remove the exhaust pipe on the left side of the engine (driver) or the lower intake but them engines are known for then lower intake gasket leaking and if you are loseing coolant then i would look in to haveing the intake gasket checked

2000 olds alero overheating just minutes after start-up. I'm told its the intake gasket but it doesn't make sense. I would believe head gasket but not intake.

if there is no coolant in the vehicle it will overheat quickly also. it you added coolant its possible the thermostat is not opening causing an overheat. worst case scenerio the head gasket is the problem
